Rutlands B&B
The Rutlands B&B is in the heart of Windsor among Victorian splendour.
Windsor castle is 5 min's walk away, the River Thames and Theatre Royal 5/6 min's, no less then 42 fine eateries starting with Windsor Grill (Anthony Worel Thompsons) plus the finest Indian, Turkish, Oriental cuisine.
Heathrow airport, 15 min's by car, direct rail lines Windsor Waterloo, approx 40 mins, and many more attractions, worth a visit anytime of year, Legoland opens from March to November and is on direct route from Rutlands, Saville gardens is 15 mins walk, and Royal Ascot 5 miles
Windsor has its own leisure centre with Olympic size pool, also a play area with a wave pool for non swimmers a very good bar and hot and cold food served in the cafeteria, for the sporty type they have a great gym, sauna and steam room, plus spa pool.
Windsor now has shopping malls to rival London in a smaller and more leisurely way. Windsor is a place you can come to and see what life was like in days gone by, (SO ) just enjoy.
About the Rutlands itself, before it became a B&B it was held by a Victorian gentleman and his family, who ran an Inn in the town like most gents of his time, work was the most important thing in his life, so by 1920 he had sadly passed on. Then a hearty butcher came along and put the first automobile on its land. There were 3 more on till the early sixties, when a sporty gent purchased the house. His name was T Jones, related to B Jones of the Rolling Stones, he owned Jones Boat Yard of Windsor, and up till 3 years ago 2 of his cousins came every year and stayed in the room where he played his music. We know Mick Jagger and the rest came here and wrote their music in the garden of the Rutlands, and sipped coffee in the kontiki cafe, on St Leonards Rd.
We also host, the Combermere Barracks, which houses Prince William & Harry, they hold the highest ranks of office there. (Frogmore is a stones throw away where the outside royals are buried including Wallace Simpson who now is at rest here.)
Our guild hall witnessed and performed the marriage of the now Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles, plus Elton John and his then partner, there is much more so I will leave the rest to you to explore. Now I do hope you can make it at some time to see this town I’ve lived in most of my life. To me its like turning a page in history walking the streets that Nell Gwyn and Charles II played romance in, and where, Edward the 8th decided the woman was worth more then the crown, and where Victoria stands so proud and stern with fingers crossed?
Hoping this William and what ever and who, will see it go on so that maybe one day my great, great grand children will be sitting writing doing what I'm doing today talking to you.
Reviews & Customer Feedback
Recently, I had the pleasure of staying for just over a week at the Rutlands. From the outset, Mr & Mrs Fahri displayed a genuine caring attitude, showing true dedication both to their guests and to the management of their business. Throughout, they maintained a perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. Eileen, who deals with the enquiries and bookings herself, was most helpful, initially by phone, and then also by e-mail. The photographs portrayed, and the advice that she had given, proved to be truly accurate, and all this was offered without the slightest obligation or pressure. As for the breakfasts, these were provided in a pleasant modest dining area with soft relaxing background music. The food was healthy, well presented, enjoyable and generous. At the same time, there was a keen sensitivity to any specific dietary problems. Meanwhile, the bedrooms were fresh, modern, spacious and stylish, with a standard of hygiene that was nothing short of meticulous. An added bonus was the food and drinks cooler for personal use in the room. This was my first ever experience of such a valuable commodity in a guest house. Furthermore, any necessary help with the movement of luggage was very willingly made available. Clearly, the above qualities, combined with such an ideal location, certainly gives this B&B a distinctive edge. St Leonards Road continues straight ahead from the main downward sloping Peascod Street, so the address is both easy to find, and accessible on foot, even while wheeling a large case.
Overall, for me, the Rutlands did not only meet with my requirements - it exceeded every expectation. ...
