Orchard House is a beautiful house in a stunning location with many unique features.

Peaceful, secluded and formerly part of a 17th Century farm, Orchard House is ideal for exploring West Cornwall. The house offers 2 very well-appointed Bed and Breakfast rooms and radiates all the comforts of a family home. The extensive, well stocked, sun-trap garden with large (uncovered) duck pond and stream following the valley down to Loe Pool are a particular feature of the property. There is ample parking.

Orchard House is not DDA compliant and is without ramps but is generally accessible.

Orchard House sits in 5 acres of farmland just above Loe Bar and its adjacent Loe Pool (Cornwall’s largest fresh water lake).

Originally part of the Penrose Estate (which owned nearly 4 miles of Lizard coastline), Orchard House, within the area of Higher Pentire and often with the sound of the surf in the wind, is set on one of the old smuggling tracks up from the Bar and Mounts Bay. Surrounded by 1800 acres of National Trust land with all its walks (5 miles around the Pool alone!) we are minutes from the sea and the Cornish Coastal footpath.

The Lizard is a paradise of walks, beaches, history, geology and of course fishing villages full of life day and night.

The bustling traditional market town of Helston (home of the “Furry Dance” and “Spingo” (ale) from ‘The Blue Anchor’ pub), with a surprising variety of shops and supermarkets, is only 1 mile back up our lane.

Higher Pentire’s southerly views roll across the fields and woodlands of Carminowe Creek (off Loe Pool and Bar) and up across farmland towards Gunwallow (one of the first entries in the Doomsday Book) with its stunning 13th century church built into the cliff.

Sir Roger de Carminowe, a crusader and relative of King Arthur lies in nearby Mawgan church. The sleepy tranquility supports a wealth of wildlife around the whole area: badgers, foxes, buzzards, kestrels and a multitude of songbirds.

Loe Pool is a designated SSSI supporting major wetlands and the whole area is a listed “area of outstanding natural beauty”. Artists are always interested that painters Stanhope-Forbes and ‘Lamorna’ Birch summered here in years gone by.

For the more adventurous Gunwalloe and Poldu are beautiful golden

sandy swimming beaches (with adjacent dog-friendly beaches) minutes away by car (or you can walk).

Mullion’s challenging 18 hole golf course is set just above Gunwalloe to the south.

The wild cliff coastline walks of west Lizard including the famous Kynance Cove, give way to moorland heathers, neolithic sites further inland. The complex geology of the Lizard is fascinating. To seaward you look out beyond The Wolf Rock lighthouse and Land’s End into the Western approaches.

East Lizard has its own charm with the fishing villages of Cadgwith and Coverack only 20 minutes away. The Helford, 20 minutes away, provides beautiful walks exploring hidden creeks – Gillan, St. Anthony, Tremayne with its cathedral-like beechwood walks and of course Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek.
