Nestling at the foot of the Quantock Hills (England’s first nominated area of outstanding natural beauty) in a converted 18th century thatched coaching stable, is The Blue Ball Inn.

Nearby Triscombe Stone, which is enroute from the Inn, marks the junction of the old drovers road and the coaching road from Watchet to Lyme Regis. On the old coaching routes, inn's would often hang out a coloured emblem for the coach drivers (who usually couldn't read or write) to follow, hence the Blue Ball may have been appropriately named.

Beneath the A-framed wooden building, you will find a welcome as warm as the Inn’s 3 fires.

We pride ourselves on using only the finest produce, locally sourced and organic where possible. Simple lunches may include Quantock Game steamed suet pudding and homemade ice creams, while the dinner menu offers an unhurried but attentive dining experience with dishes such as dressed Cornish crab and a taste of Blue Ball desserts in miniature.

We can also provide tastefully decorated accommodation with what has been described as Somerset’s finest Full English Breakfast. We offer a range of local guest ales, wines and soft drinks with can be enjoyed in our fabulous beer garden, with outstanding views over the Brendon Hills. Private parties, business meetings and special occasion get-togethers catered for.

We also serve a ramblers breakfast on Saturday mornings from 9am til 11am. Exmoor National Park, Historic Glastonbury, Dunster Castle Cheddar Gorge and the beautiful southern Jurassic Coastline are all just a short car journey away.

Budding photographers will be enticed with the stunning panoramic views of outstanding natural beauty but may be distracted with the appearance of the Quantock ponies and rambling deer.
