Situated in the Cairngorms National Park there are many walking and cycling trails and fantastic views from the top of Craigendarroch hill (if you are fit enough to reach the top!).

The village of Ballater is well known for it's 18 hole golf course by the River Dee but is best remembered for its small shops and historic royal connection with Queen Victoria.

The village shops boast many Royal crests and still supply the Royal family to this day.

The Old Station houses the Tourist Information Centre and is home to an exhibition of the history of Ballater station, including a replica of the Queen Victoria's royal carriage . As the River Dee runs through Ballater it is popular with fishermen and there is also the Tullich Fishery nearby.

Balmoral Castle can be visited between April and the end of July and some Saturdays during the Winter months and is only 7 miles away. Next to the castle is the famous Lochnagar Distillery, which is open all year and is known for its friendly tours and fine whisky.

Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and many other distilleries are within easy driving distance and have excellent visitor facilities for a day out.

In the summer, the Ballater Highland games and Victoria week are popular with tourists and locals alike and the Lonach and Braemar Gatherings are also great attractions.

There are many varied and quality restaurants in the village serving food to suit all tastes.
