Hillard House Inn

Hillard House Inn is a Second Empire architectural gem located on Wilkes University Campus, in downtown Wilkes-Barre PA. Built circa 1865 by a wealthy merchant, T.S. Hillard. Hillard House retains its original parquet flooring, curving walnut staircase with open three floor rotunda, plaster cornices and medallions, windows, full shutters, hardware, pier glass mirrors and twelve foot ceilings.

We have three guest rooms available; each has a queen sized bed with quality bedding and triple sheeted. Each has its own private bath with shower, refrigerator stocked with complimentary soda and water, cable TV, wifi, ac, coffeemaker, desk and seating area.

The Rose Room has a lovely canopy bed with antique handmade cover, black marble fireplace mantle (non-working) and hand hooked wool rugs.
The Gold Room features a stencilled fleur-de-lis border around its walls, elegant drapes striped in cream, blue and golden yellow thickly lined to keep out the chill.
The Blue Room is furnished with painted and stencilled queen bed, french provincial sofa, and two cozy windows seats.

The public rooms on the first floor are the Music Room with two Baby grand pianos, crystal chandelier and wall sconces, oriental rugs and silk upholstered wing chairs and sofa. The small Parlor adjoins the Music Room and can be turned into an intimate dining room for two or four by closing the pocket doors and drapes. Across the hall is the den where you can watch the big game or a dvd on the comfortable leather seating. Over the fireplace is a copy of a Cluny medieval tapestry featuring the lady and the unicorn.

Breakfast is served every day between 8 and 10 AM in our elegant formal Dinig Room with its crystal chandelier.
We have several house specialities- gingerbread pancakes,apple and cheese bread pudding,eggs bendict with salmon- all served with fresh baked goods, orange juice, fruit and coffee and tea. Other meals are available by arrangement. We can provide business luncheons, dinners, breakfasts and teas in our lovely and comfortable home. Hillard House is easily accessible to I81 and the PA turnpike.

AVP International Airport is 20 minutes away. Wilkes University, Kings College, Misericordia University, Wyoming Seminary, FM Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, Mohegan Sun Arena and Mohegan Sun Casino and Racetrack are all within a 15 minute drive. For our Canadian friends we are a convenient stop to or from home. We are close to the Pocono Region and its outdoor attractions. Two hours from Philadelphia and New York City, Hillard House Inn can serve as a base for travelers, both business and leisure.
