The town Vryheid is rich in history of the Anglo boor war and English Zulu war. It is near the Hluhluwe game reserve as well as the Ithala game reserve. The town is 400 kilometres from Johannesburg and 300 from Durban.
This is a home away from home and our guests have high praise for the owners petro who is very friendly. The bedrooms are very neat and each has a toilet and shower and a double bed.
There is a TV in each room and the rooms are separate from the main building. The house is very safe and secure with a security gate and electronic sensors at night.
There is a warm spring about 30 miles from Vryheid and a game park adjacent to town. Vryheid is essentially a mining town and has a museum in the town centre.
When staying at Unique B&B you will experience South African hospitality at its best and if you fell like having a bar bequ Petro will arrange for you to savour this south African way of spending an evening.
We have a big screen TV as well as satellite TV and you can watch the latest news from the comfort of your bedroom or in the bar whilst sipping a cool beer or real South African wine. The centre of town is five minutes away from the Bed and Breakfast and there are super markets where anything can be bought.
The town has an information centre where information about the various wars that have taken place in the past can be looked up and details of how to get there are available. There is a 9 hole golf course which is kept in a beautiful condition with the best greens and fairways and the fees are very reasonable. There are a number of restaurants and dining out can be a pleasure in Vryheid.
The King of the Zulu nation has his Castles about 1 hours drive from Vryheid. Not far from Vryheid you will find Sordwana Bay, which is internationally renowned for its diving sites.
The hluhlewe game reserve has the big 5 and is about 2 hours drive from Vryheid. One of the most important battle sites nearby is Isandlwana where about 850 English soldiers fought but were defeated by 25000 Zulu warriors. There is an eerie silence at the site and one can almost relive what happened there during that time. Also not far from Vryheid is the site where the Boer 's fought the Zulus at Bloodriver. It is a huge historical museum and the oxwagon at the site are a replica of what happened many years ago.
