Jungle Resort at Andaman Islands of India

Anugama Resort is situated at Wandoor, about 30 minutes by road from Port Blair, The 13 cabanas of the resort with thatch roofs blend into the environment. They are uniquely designed with extra large picture windows, so that one can drink in the jungle views. Breathtakingly beautiful Wandoor beach is nearby where one can go
snorkelling/unique flora and fauna.

A naturalist's delight, beautiful Wandoor beach is a stone's throw away. Pack a picnic basket , grab a bicycle and it is a 5 minute ride. Beautiful islands, coral reefs, Islands are a beautiful island chain that are politically a part of India, but geographically much closer to Thailand and Burma (Myanmar). The chain includes about 300 islands, most of which are uninhabited. The Andamans are blessed with particularly clear seawater, coral reefs and sandy beaches.

The Andaman Islands have a population of 360,000, comprised mainly of migrants from the Indian mainland. The original islanders, some of who still survive, are indigenous tribes ethnically unrelated to India. The total land area is about 6500 square km (2500 sq miles)

Foreign travel to the Andaman Islands has only recently been allowed. Travel to the capital, Port Blair, is currently only available from Kolkata (Calcutta) and Chennai (Madras), and is available by airplane and sporadically by ship.

Luxury accommodations are scarce, travel is difficult and the few tourists that visit the Andamans, decide to camp or stay at spartan guesthouses. Life on the Andaman Islands, outside of Port Blair, is as you would expect in the tropics: slow-paced and relaxed.

The islands exist in India's popular consciousness mainly because they were used as a penal colony by the British rulers to imprison rebels and freedom fighters, in addition to hardened criminals. Most of the inhabitants of these islands are in fact migrants from the mainland, some of them being descended from the prisoners.

The original inhabitants are a bunch of aboriginal tribes who exist more or less out of the mainstream. There are some tribes who have had no contact whatsoever with the rest of the world. Of nearly 600 islands, only 9 are open to foreign tourists, and all of these are in the Andamans.

The main island is divided into 3 portions - North Andaman, Middle Andaman and South Andaman. Port Blair is located on South Andaman. There is very good fishing, usually large fish. The islands are also a diver's dream, and there are numerous world class dive sites.
