Additional Information

We know that when you visit a country, it is necessary to estimate all in relation with the money of the trip. In Cuba it is important to distinct two different kinds of money; this are: the Cuban Pesos (CUP), used for you to pay only certain products and services, for example: for paying the public transport in Cuba (commonly called “guagua”), also in movies, at Cuban groceries, agro-markets; and the Cuban Convertible pesos (CUC), used by tourism. Both kinds are used in Cuba for different purposes.

You may get CUC at CADECA Posts (Changing money legal houses in Cuba). A CUC seems to be more or less like a dollar, but is not exactly like this –try to pray attention please: as a result of the block out imposed by United States to Cuba, Cuban Government is forced to discount first the 10%, per each dollar, after that, the result of this discount is divided into the Changing Task. That’s why a dollar is equal to $ 0,87 CUC. If you wish to be safe from this inconvenient you may travel with Euros, Pounds, Mexican pesos, Canada dollar or Yen. In fact, Euro is the most convenient kind of money to travel to Cuba. So, one CUC is about 0.75 €.

You may take into consideration that is not difficult to distinct between CUC and CUP, in the CUC is explicitly written “Billetes convertibles” at the billet. By the other hand, if you only change money in the legal CADECAS Posts, you won’t have problems, this CADECAS are located in many places of the city, so you won’t have any inconvenient for providing yourself of money. Any way considering also that there is not differences of change from one CADECA to another, is convenient, at least, to change a part of your money at the Airport Jose Marti, in order to have money for the taxi (the first quantity of money you wish to spent). You also may ask for easy billets for exchange, according to its lower denomination, for example: billets of 1, 5 or 10 CUC, avoiding other difficulties.
