Mango Beach Inn

Mango Beach Inn on the waterfront in magical Marigot Bay, is a landmark building in local stone (formerly known as Seahorse Inn). A giant mango tree provides welcome shade and privacy and the beach is just a one minute stroll away along the boardwalk. Small and intimate, we welcome family groups (with children of all ages), small weddings and honeymooners and also single travellers looking for an atmosphere that’s both secure and friendly.

Mango Beach is on the secluded, beach side of Marigot Bay and the only way to reach it is by a two minute ferry ride which takes you directly to the inn’s private dock. It’s a lovely way to start a holiday, especially as the dock is shared with Rainforest Hideaway, one of the most highly acclaimed fine dining restaurants in the Caribbean. Captain Bravo’s ferry runs 24 hours a day and an unlimited ferry pass comes free with your room booking.

Walking over the little wooden bridge by the Rainforest lagoon and through the gate into Mango Beach’s lush tropical garden is the first delight that awaits weary, jet lagged guests. Bright flowering creepers, palms, multicoloured bougainvillea and perfumed lilies, gardenias and jasmine mingle with the many fruits – bananas, passion fruit, paw paw, pineapple, lime and orange – that may appear on the breakfast table next morning, according to season.

The pool, which overlooks the bay, has a gazebo (useful when the sun’s too hot or if there’s an unexpected shower). There’s also a barbeque area for guests to use and we supply barbeque packs on request.

The Harbour Room

The inn is an old building with just five guest rooms and the Harbour Room guest lounge on the upper level. The Harbour Room, with its panoramic view of the bay, is the breakfast room and lounge area. Used by guests at all hours for relaxing, watching TV, logging on to the internet (free WiFi), playing games or just chatting. It’s a great place to make new friends, discuss sightseeing and plan the next day’s activities – or just curl up in a corner and catch up on your novel.

We have an extensive book swap library and lots of games including Scrabble, Monopoly and packs of cards.

Guest Rooms

Our five guest rooms all have en suite bathrooms and wall decorations by a well known St Lucian artist but each one is charmingly individual, :

Blue Bamboo Cottage with its romantic four poster queen size bed is cool and simple with its own private entrance and a secluded patio with a view across the garden and the bay. There is an open plan bedroom and living area with space for a child’s bed or cot on request. AC, fan, TV, fridge, tea and coffee.

The Green Fig Suite has a king size bed, AC, a fan, fridge, tea and coffee and TV. It shares a patio with an annexe that does not have AC but is useful for families with children. The patio has a view over the harbour through the wedding arch on the lawn. It has a private entrance as well as a door into the main house.

The Courtyard Room is on the upper level, close to the breakfast room, a very bright, light room with a queen size bed, AC, fan, fridge, tea and coffee and walk in wardrobe. No bay view or patio.

The Seahorse Room, also on the upper level, is a very large room with a queen size bed and a day bed big enough for a child or adult. There is also space for a crib and additional single bed. Also a fan, AC, fridge, tea and coffee, walk in wardrobe and a tub as well as a shower in the en suite bathroom. No bay view or patio but a covered walkway links it to the main house, giving shelter and security, especially for small children who cannot wander off into the garden unnoticed.

Rooms Rates

Blue Bamboo and Green Fig (patios and views) are US$180 a night, double occupancy, from December through April, $160 in May and October/November and $140 from July through September..

Courtyard and Seahorse are US$160 double occupancy from December through April, $140 in May and October/November and $120 from July through September.

There is a 10% service charge but no government tax. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and we serve a fresh (and healthy!) continental buffet including a wide range of cereals, bread and pastries baked specially for us by Chef Michel of Nougatine as well as yoghurt, local fruit and St Lucian honey and jam.

Children Are Welcome

We have equipment (crib, high chair, baby bath and toys, books and puzzles for all ages) as well as an experienced babysitter if required. Guests may use baby monitors which seem to work well from all the bedrooms to the Harbour Room, but please check that your monitor is dual voltage or 240 volts.

Maid Service

The rooms are cleaned daily and the beds and towels changed as required. There is a laundry service as well as an ironing board and iron.

Marigot Bay Activities

The safe, sandy swimming beach, just along the boardwalk, has a watersport hut with small sailboats, pedalos, kayaks and snorkelling equipment. There’s also a dive shop in the bay which hires equipment and takes guests by boat to the marine park and other reef areas.

Marigot also has plenty of jogging and walking trails, mostly with spectacular views. From Mango Beach there is a ridge climb with ropes to help the ascent which leads to a meditation platform with views south to Mount Gimie.

Mango Beach is also perfectly located for exploring beautiful St Lucia, half way down the Caribbean coast between the mountains, rainforest and sulphur springs of the south and the night clubs and beaches of the north.

Shopping And Restaurants

The Marina Village has a full service bank, open daily and an ATM. There is a supermarket, various souvenir shops, an upmarket fashion boutique, a car rental office and a laundry. There are two spas and a beauty parlour in the bay.

The seven restaurants and bars within the bay include the acclaimed Rainforest Hideaway, the famous Hurricane Hole yachtie bar serving casual meals, the Boudreau Restaurant, Chateau Mygo, Dolittles, Mama Sheila’s, Juliettas and Rowleys Caribbean Coffee Shop and Cafe. The range is from fine dining to good local food at budget prices.
