Casa Volcan
At the entrance to Volcan in the beautiful Chiriqui highlands, is an attractive yellow house with a sign Casa Volcan. It's across the road from Cabanas Reis and Daily's Restaurant. Volcan is almost halfway up Volcan Baru, the highest mountain in Panama and, with an elevation around 4500 feet is never too hot. The Chiriqui Highlands are a botanical wonder with an extraordinary variety of birds, plants and butterflies.
A short drive further up the mountain leads to the famous Amistad Park which is on both sides of the Panama/Costa Rica border.
A little west of Volcan on the road to border town Rio Sereno is the Ruiz coffe plantation which offers interesting tours.
The house has two bedrooms with private baths, kitchen access and WIFI. The room rate includes breakfast at Daily's Restaurant and a discount on lunch and dinner.
From Volcan or neighbouring towns is a variety of hiking, sightseeing and other activities. Less than an hour away is the provincial capital, David, which has the second best shopping in Panama. About an hour away is Playa Barqueta and other beaches are only a little further. The fit can climb Volcan Baru or a smaller peak on the continental divide and see the Pacific and Caribbean at the same time. Volcan and the area is home to the Ngobe Bugle tribe with their colourful dresses and crafts, some of which are available at the new market building in Volcan.
Daily's Restaurant offers a variety of North American, Asian and European dishes and a variety of soft drinks, juices, beers, teas, wine, liquor, smoothies and, of course Panamanian coffee, which is sold worldwide.
