Blacksmiths BnB, near Lanercost Priory
The Blacksmiths in Lanercost is the ideal place to stay if you're in need of a peaceful rest after maybe a long hike, cycle ride or even a hard days work. We are ideally located along Hadrian's Wall trail for both cyclists and walkers, and also a stone's throw away from the grand Lanercost Priory.
Lanercost Priory was founded about 1144 as an Augustinian priory. A quiet and peaceful place today, it is difficult to imagine it during times of violent Border warfare in the Middle Ages. Pillaged by the Scots in revenge for the invasion of Scotland by King John, laid waste again by Robert the Bruce, and still being harried by the Scots in the 16th century it is amazing that so much of it has survived in good condition.
Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is an unbroken 84 mile signposted trail stretching from coast to coast, from Wallsend in the east to Bowness-on-solway in the west.
It passes through some of the most beautiful parts of England - from rolling fields and rugged moorland to the vibrant cities of Newcastle and Carlisle.
The Trail, with links to over 80 short walks, is suitable for people of all ages with opportunities for less abled access to many stretches of the Wall. It is ideal for day visits, short breaks or a week-long holiday.
We cater for wedding guests who frequent the Priory or Naworth Castle and also accommodate for business clients working in and around Brampton and Carlisle.
Both our rooms may be set up as double or twin, are ensuite, and have beautiful outlooks. We serve your choice of breakfast the following morning, that is well worth getting up for!!
There is plenty of parking and drying facilities, if needed. We have wireless broadband suitable for collecting webmail and can provide an evening meal if required.
You'll receive a most warm welcome here, and hopefully some of the Cumbrian enchantment that we experience everyday, will rub off on you too!
