Castle Hill Farm House
Castle Hill Farm House is a grade II listed building set in the heart of the Peak National Park. It is a few minutes walk along the River Wye to the historical town centre of Bakewell in Derbyshire, which boasts incredible countryside, local attractions, and is home to the Original Bakewell Pudding.
The picturesque town of Bakewell is conveniently close to Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, and a perfect base for walkers.
The Farm House dates back to the 17th century. It has beamed ceilings and there is not a straight wall in the house! All our rooms have been recently professionally redecorated to capture the essence of the building along with the comforts of modern living. All rooms have private facilities and fantastic river views.
We are a family run establishment, providing superior quality bed and breakfast, welcoming tourists and business guests alike. We aim to provide you with an idyllic setting and a magical atmosphere to ensure your stay with us is completely enjoyable...
We have been awarded 4 Diamonds and a Silver Award by the English Tourist Council.
We cater for Vegetarian and Gluten free diets as well as serving our traditional English breakfast. All the produce we use comes from local providers around the Peak District and indeed we support the 'Peak District Cuisine' Group.
By law, Castle Hill Farm House building is a non-smoking establishment, but you are welcome to smoke outside in the garden.
Castle Hill Farm House has been our home since 1988, when we moved from London. It has always been a place where it is easy to unwind, and we would frequently come here for holidays when my parents lived here before, and my 3 children were young.
Our aim is for you to have a relaxing and enjoyable stay with us, and for you to be able to experience many delightful and interesting places in the Peak District. We are always pleased to help with directions and maps to places of interest, and you will find a selection of tourist leaflets available to browse.
Across the road from the house are a few steps down to the natural riverbank of the Wye, where there are numerous brown trout to be seen when the water is clear. In Spring, moorhens and coots nest on the opposite bank where sheep often graze, and the water meadows are filled with wild flowers. It is truly idyllic. To the right, across the meadow, lies a narrow packhorse bridge with ford (not to be chanced now as it is so deep). If you walk to the left, you arrive at Bakewell Bridge. Over that is the town centre of Bakewell, where there are many tourist shops, a supermarket, post office, pubs and places to eat to suit all tastes. There are many good cafe's open during the day, and we can recommend a few reliable ones for supper.
Customer Service
We are certified and committed to the objectives of Welcome to Excellence, England's Regional Tourist Board's quality customer service training for the tourism industry, and we are allowed to display their logo.
Environment
Whenever possible, we source the ingredients for your breakfast and cake for afternoon tea from the best local suppliers, which is why we can display the Peak District Cuisine logo.
Our aim is to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We recycle plastic, glass and paper, and have a very active compost heap. Pesticides are not used in the garden as there are toads, who we encourage to eat the slugs, although we don't have enough of them yet. A pond is at the planning stage. We are trying to make the hedges more dense for the numerous blue tits, robins, sparrows, chaffinches and blackbirds to nest in.
We provide each guest with luxury toiletries from the Spa Therapy Collection from Gilchrist & Soames, because we support their environmental and cruelty-free policies.
We have used high quality designer environmentally friendly paint from Farrow & Ball to achieve a stunning finish to our walls and paint work.
We are currently in the process of applying for the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark - an award which recognises businesses who have good environmental practice and who contribute to the conservation of the Peak District.
