Cleeve House Hotel
The Cleeve House Hotel is situated in the pretty village of Mortehoe - a stone's throw from Woolacombe's golden sands. The hotel is a home from home, with many thoughtful extras to make your stay special.
There are stunning views of the surrounding sea and countryside and there is a pretty garden and patio for guests to relax in. Recommended by the Good Hotel Guide 2007, and winners of the North Devon Super Service Awards 2005.
The Breakfast menu is varied, generous and extensive. The bread, muesli, yoghurt and preserves are all home made. The Dinner menu changes daily to include such dishes as Free Range Supreme of Chicken with Balsamic, Orange and Rosemary Sauce
T-Bone Steak with Horseradish Butter, Pan-Fried Organic Exmoor Trout with Almond Butter Sauce, Braised Exmoor Venison with Red Wine and Spaetsle,
Fresh Morte Bay Lobster Salad.
Again, every dish is freshly made from locally sourced ingredients where possible. There is a wine list to complement the dishes.
Local activities include walking the coastal path, cycling, horse riding, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, quad bikes, water sports, fishing, and golf. It's a short walk to Woolacombe's golden sands (a Blue Flag beach, consistently praised for its clean sands and clear waters). It's a popular beach for surfing and bodyboarding. One can hire all the equipment to surf or bodyboard. Don't know how to surf? Lessons are available from a professional coach.
It's a short drive to Exmoor, Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, Arlington Court (National Trust Property) and Marwood Gardens. It's possible to visit Lundy for the day from Bideford or Ilfracombe. The Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Rosemoor and the Dartington Crystal Factory are situated near Torrington, south of Barnstaple.
The village boasts 3 pubs, 2 restaurants, a chip shop, tea rooms and 3 stores.
