The Coachouse Hotel
The Coachouse which was originally built in 1857 was converted from an old farm building/coach house to a 12 bedroom family run hotel, by the present owners in 1988. The original farm was built on the site of an Anglo Saxon settlement dating to around 850AD and at one time was run by the monks of Tavistock Abbey.
The ancient stannary town of Tavistock is 2.5 mls away, this was the home of the Dukes of Bedford, it has many beautiful and historic buildings and was voted best market town in England recently.
The hotel is on the edge of the hamlet of Ottery and surrounded by superb countryside. For those who prefer a more active holiday there are lovely walks in all directions, in the Tamar Valley and in Dartmoor National Park. The Eden Project is a 45 minute drive.
There are two golf courses near Tavistock and several others within 10 or 12 miles including St Mellion International golf Club. We have two very good fishing lakes, Milemead Fisheries only one mile from the hotel has coarse and trout lakes and the well known Tavistock Trout Fisheries specialising in some large trout.
All 12 bedrooms have en-suite facilities some have views of Dartmoor, two rooms have four poster beds and two have woodburners. There is a small walled garden with tables and chairs for al fresco dining (weather permitting). The garden is overlooked by a large airy dining room and the lounge.
The dining room is open from 6.30 to 9.00pm last orders. As well as our normal menu we have a carvery every Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime, we also have a specials board of mainly fish dishes every night.
Two or three night Bargain Breaks are available all year, please ring for prices. The Coachouse is situated in a central position for day trips to any part of Devon or Cornwall and is surrounded by historic houses and gardens, there are also many beautiful beaches less than an hours drive away.
