High Trees B&B Cattistock
High Trees B&B - Cattistock
A stylish property, offering luxurious two en-suite bedrooms for bed and breakfast accommodation in Cattistock, near Dorchester.
High Trees Bed and breakfast provides quiet and luxurious guest accommodation in beautiful rural Dorset, in the village of Cattistock. Which is picturesque, quite and unspoilt yet with easy access to the A37, and a rail link via Maiden Newton (1˝ away)
High Tress, standing well back from the road, is located on the western edge of the village, overlooking the surrounding countryside, with ample off-road parking. There is a sunny south west facing terrace to sit out and relax.
Cattistock has a shop/post office, the Fox and Hounds traditional public house, offering imaginative locally sourced food, and the spectacular parish church of St Peter and St Paul, the tower of which is stunning and visible for miles around.
The nearby village of Maiden Newton offers a railway station, garage, shops, café, restaurant and the Chalk and Cheese pub. The very pretty village of Evershot lies a little further distant and has a good range of facilities, the Acorn Inn, offering lovely food and the Summer Lodge hotel for that special occasion. The historic town of Beaminster is 8 miles away and has over 200 listed buildings at its centre. Dorchester, the county town with Roman origins and historic Bridport are both about 9 miles away. Sherborne is a little further away.
Cattistock is a happy mixture of brick and slate and thatched stone cottages, with more modern buildings away from the centre. The earthworks on Castle Hill, overlooking the village defy dating, but King Alfred’s grandson, Athelstan, gave land thereabouts to the monks in return for their prayers.
The village parish church, with 15th century north and south transepts, was virtually rebuilt in 1857 by Sir Gilbert Scott and remains one of the finest 19th century churches in Dorset.
Cattistock is also home to the Cattistock Hunt, and the baying of the hounds can still be heard around the village at feeding times.
