Toll House B & B
An attractive riverside 18th century former toll-keepers residence, with a wealth of internal character and charm, catering specifically for discerning guests aged 50 plus.
We are conveniently situated on the B1383 (old A11), in the historic village of Newport, north Essex, close to the Cambridgeshire border. Next door is a 15th century Grammar School (where Jamie Oliver was a pupil), set in beautiful grounds, with 'Wicken Water' separating the two properties. Guests are welcome to relax in our stunning riverside gardens and patios.
All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and have been refurbished to the highest standard with exposed beams and vaulted ceilings. Each is fully equipped with TV (Sky freesat) and video, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and ceiling fan. An iron is available on request.
Newport has its own railway station for direct access to London and Cambridge, in addition to 2 pubs, a supermarket (reasonably priced wine and video rentals), a superb Indian restaurant ( no take-aways in the bedrooms please, but you are welcome to eat them in the dining room) and a Post Office, all within easy walking distance.
There are lovely countryside walks from the house, and the ancient market town of Saffron Walden with its 18 hole golf course and state of the art leisure centre is less than 3 miles away. Audley End House and Quendon Hall (Parklands) are within two miles.
We are fifteen minutes from the M11, Stansted Airport and Duxford Imperial War Museum, to and from which transport can be arranged.
We are committed to providing every guest with a warm welcome, comfortable first class accommodation and fine food, at a reasonable price.
