Hazelwood B&B
Nailsworth is located four miles south of Stroud in Gloucestershire, and is in one of the Stroud five valleys. It is well situated for exploring the 'Undiscovered' South Cotswolds. It has a reputation for it's many independent restaurants and pubs. These include Egypt Mill, situated in an old mill building with working water wheels, where fresh fish is a speciality, an all Organic restaurant and a couple of Bangladeshi/Indian restaurants.
There are also a number of pubs serving food, in particular the Weighbridge, home of the famous '2 in 1' pie (a favourite with many of our guests), and the Britannia Inn, which is right in the centre of town and has a good vegetarian selection.
For shopping you can enjoy a wide variety of independent retailers selling arts & crafts, pictures, antiques, gifts, jewellery, china, books, shoes, clothes, stationary, a huge display warehouse of furniture and things for the home, and two ironmongers.
For the foodies there is also a superb delicatessen/fishmongers and an award-winning bakery. Alternatively you can leave the town centre, for the surrounding wonderful open countryside and woodlands.
A walk around Hazel Wood is well worth doing, as you can hike up to the top of the hill, take a left turn, then another left and finally end up at the Weighbridge pub! By taking the 'W' out of town, past the Somerfield supermarket you will end up on Minchinhampton and Rodborough commons. These are owned by the National Trust and provide easy walking with beautiful views of the surrounding valleys, and in spring a wealth of wildflowers.
There is even a public golf course on Minchinhampton common and you can buy Winstones Cotswold ice cream on Rodborough common. Minchinhampton centre is well worth a short visit with a High Street of well kept old houses and an 18th Century Market House. Any visit to Nailsworth should include a visit to Woodchester Park, with open days and tours of the famous Victorian mansion available most weekends.
Touring from Nailsworth .. If you want to travel further Nailsworth provides an excellent touring base for access to Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucester, and the better known towns and villages of the North Cotswolds. Also within easy reach are Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust, Westonbirt Arboretum, Cotswold Water Park and the attractive towns of Cirencester, Tetbury, Malmesbury, and Painswick.
We have a large selection of tourist information available for your perusal. For walkers you may like to borrow our local maps or leaflets on suggested circular walks both nearby and throughout the Cotswolds. If you are unfortunate enough to get wet then we will be happy to dry your clothes for you!
