Furze Hill Cottage Bed & Breakfast
The New Forest is a rare piece of England and Furze Hill is a rare piece of the Forest. On the west side of the New Forest National Park Furze Hill Cottage sits on a small unmade lane leading nowhere except the open forest. From your bedroom you will look directly over the forest and its wildlife.
This is a peaceful area, a small hamlet of 7 well spaced houses. The cottage sits in ¾ acre of garden. In the garden our chickens, ducks and cats wander. In the corner there is a beehive. The chickens will provide you with eggs for breakfast if you wish. In the spring and summer you are likely to see chicks and ducklings. In the autumn curl up in front of the fire in the sitting room with a good book or DVD.
Your hosts are Lindsay and Michael. Our bed and breakfast is designed with your comfort in mind. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the fresh air and countryside. We know the area well and can recommend any number of activities. However, if you just want to take it easy then you are in the right place.
Just say the word and we will ensure your privacy and, if you wish, bring you breakfast in bed. Otherwise if you want to know about the area we can offer a few tips and recommendations, point you in the right direction for walks or the pub or introduce you to the live stock.
By the time you arrive at Furze Hill Cottage B&B you will already have absorbed some of the flavour of the New Forest - the ponies, the donkeys, the deer.
From the cottage you will see all of that and more. The gate at the end of garden leads straight on to the forest. Here it is heather, bracken, gorse and a hilly outlook allowing the wildlife to be easily seen. For walkers and bird watchers this location is heaven. We are on the west side of the National Park and you can hike unhindered for miles.
The adventurous can walk to Brook or Bramshaw for lunch – about 2 to 3 hours each way - or to the best pub in the forest at Fritham (less than two hours and very well worth it)– we can give you directions. This route offers a flavour of the wide variety within the local landscape travelling across open ground with marvellous views, past (or through) a forestry commission enclosure and then through ancient woodland.
Rooms
The cottage has two double rooms available for bed and breakfast guests. Both look out onto the landscape and one has a balcony where you can take your breakfast or sit and just enjoy the view. Each room is very comfortably furnished and has ensuite facilities. From time to time a third room is available.
Downstairs there is a guest sitting room with open fire, television and DVD player and a dining room which, outside meal times, can be used as a quiet room for reading or games. We have a good selection of games, books and DVDs.
We have WIFI in the cottage.
