Walnut Cottage New Forest B&B
Our beautiful Grade II listed thatched foresters cottage is the oldest cottage in the picturesque hamlet of North Gorley in the New Forest National Park in Hampshire and our nearest town is Fordingbridge, which lies approximately 2 miles north of the hamlet whilst the historic market town of Ringwood dating back to Anglo Saxon times lies approximately 5 miles to the south.
With modern comforts such as free wifi and a flatscreen TV you can relax in your quaint double ensuite cottage bedroom enjoying fresh clean linen and the 16th Century olde worlde charm of oak framed brick walls and exposed oak beamed ceilings, with timbers reputed to have come from the Tudor shipbuilding industry on the Beaulieu River at Bucklers Hard.
Your own French windows open out into the lovingly tended cottage garden, where you can enjoy your organic breakfast in peace in your private annex overlooking the flowers.
The beautiful New Forest has much to offer its visitors, from the most spectacular views and open forest land; ideal for walking and cycling to the wonderful wildlife which can found almost everywhere you look.
Originally commandeered in 1079 as a deer hunting area by William the Conqueror, The New Forest is now a national nature reserve covering some 93,000 acres of Hampshire. New Forest Ponies, donkeys and cows roam free over the countryside, whilst deer can regularly be seen wandering in the more secluded areas of the forest, which is also home to a fantastic range of wild birds.
The village of North Gorley is in the parish of Hyde and lies within the New Forest Boundary. There is plenty to explore locally – on Gorley Common at the top of Buddle Hill it is not uncommon to see deer grazing. Within a mile is the New Forest Water Park and 4 miles away is the Ringwood Town and Country Experience, a museum which is home to vintage cars and motorcycles, as well as exhibitions and a full size railway station. Nearby is the Elizabethan Manor House at Breamore. Fly fishing is available at the well-known Rockbourne Trout Fishery.
