The Bear Guest House.
Four rooms have wonderful sea views of Margate beach. Rooms are comfortable, well appointed and very clean. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary mineral water, fridge, TV with free sat channels and complimentary toiletries. A DVD player is available on request as are an iron and an ironing board. Each room has it's own hand basin and private shower but are not full en-suites. Separate toilets are located on each landing.
The Bear is family friendly and we warmly welcome families with babies, small infants and older children. A travel cot is available if required at no charge.
Cyclists are warmly welcome, but we don't have anywhere except the basement area to store bikes.
Due to our property being Georgian and listed, we have 5 floors and the considerable number of stairs may prove difficult for someone with mobility issues.
Reduced rates are available to contractors and holiday makers for long-term stays. Check-in is anytime from 1pm and check-out is 11am on the day of departure.
We let rooms on a room only basis i.e. we do not offer breakfast. There are, however, lots of nice places nearby to eat.
Our rates are: £40 for a single room, £65 for a double room, £90 for a triple room and £110 for a family room (which can sleep 4 adults and a baby in a travel cot).
Free car parking is available outside the property (first come, first served) and in nearby streets. There is also a large train station car park 1 minute away which is chargeable at approx. £3 per day.
Margate is as close to Calais as it is to London, so there's an opportunity to take a ferry to France providing you bring your passport. The castle in Dover is quite a sight. Canterbury Cathedral isn't too far. Whitstable is the place for your fish restaurants, and Ramsgate is a short bus ride away. Sandwich is a pretty little place for a stroll and a drink, and Broadstairs too is pretty close.
Margate is at its best when the sun is shining, as are most places. But if the sea is as fascinating to you in all its moods, as it was to Turner, then we have miles of coastline to explore.
Also, Quex House is a few miles down the road, and the Manston Air Museum is close too.
Phone us with any questions you may have, as we find the phone is more direct than e-mail, and we are happy to help wherever possible.
