It’s well worth a short walk into Sandwich where The Barbican along with Fishergate can be found at the bottom of Quay Lane where it emerges onto the Quay. At this point you can still see the portcullis groove dating back to 1384.
This gate formed part of the town's fortifications ordered by Richard 11. Further into the town, is the Guildhall built in 1579 and site of the town’s museum. The museum has artefacts dating back to the 13th century and well worth a visit. There is an abundance of good restaurants and specialist shops to be found in the old streets of the town. Not forgetting, the wonderful surrounding countryside, which makes it ideal for walkers to explore the Saxon Shore Way.
The Saxon Shore Way in places, passes through two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, numerous Sites of Special Scientific Interest and several Nature Reserves. There's many cycle routes for the cycling enthusiast, which are well sign posted. The National Cycle Network along the Kent Coast is spectacular and provides the opportunity to explore areas of great natural beauty and historical interest.
Sandwich, is also very close to the White Cliffs of Dover where the Cross Channel Ferry Port can be found and a little further along the coast is the Channel Tunnel link to the continent, Both these facilities offer wonderful day trips to the French Coast, at reasonable costs.
The Cathedral City of Canterbury is easily accessed from Le-Trayas. The Cathedral and its grounds is a must visit, along with the trendy exciting shops, which can be found very close to the Cathedral precincts.
