The Pelican Freehouse, restaurant & ensuite B&B
Our traditional pub is one of Norfolk’s oldest inns, with its history dating back to the 16th century. Since becoming its owners 11 years ago, we have lovingly and sympathetically restored the building and its surroundings, remaining full of character and charm becoming one of Norfolk’s most popular destination pubs and eateries in the area.
The pub itself comprises of soft leather sofas, stone floors, old oak beams and a large open fire place, we believe in home comforts and want our customers to feel relaxed, well looked after and comfortable in their surroundings whether drinking, dining or frequenting our B&B.
Although the pub itself is well known for its ‘simple British cuisine’ The pelican is fully licensed and renowned for its large variety of wines, beers, malts and traditional real ales and as a free-house, we have the added bonus of being able to keep our prices affordable.
In recent years, we have been highly reviewed and awarded for the consistency of quality and service for our real ale and currently offer four local and national hand pulls. Within our new real ale shop, we support 31 Norfolk & Suffolk breweries by showcasing an impressive 90 local real ale bottles to take away. Every year we also hold a number of beer festivals where customers are given the opportunity to drink from a variety of local and national real ales and ciders.
Local produce and freshly made meals are important to us, so therefore we don’t believe in using cheap, quick substitutes in any of our meals; where stated we make our own sauces, chutneys, breads, ice-creams and desserts ,’we even cut our own chips’ and have a strict ‘no frozen food’ delivery policy. As a Norfolk country pub, The Pelican is in the ideal position to make the most of having easy access to locally grown produce so we make regular visits to the nearby local markets and farms for our meat, fish, dairy and vegetables.
We, as a strong, small team believe in offering choice within a seasonal British menu; with a beautiful philosophy on ‘quality, value and dining experience’. This has been highly independently reviewed, and therefore this Norfolk restaurant has been favourably re-visited. Here, the ambience is soothing; the service is efficient and friendly yet unobtrusive. As with any good restaurant; booking is always advisable, to avoid disappointment.
Our luxury en-suite accommodation is located in a converted 16th century barn, that adjoins the historic village pub; 'The Pelican Inn'. The advantage is that the access for the B&B is completely separate which means although your stay is made extremely personal, you have the space and freedom (with a your own key) to come and go as you please, and therefore do not feel like you are intruding a family home.
Because of its 15 minute location from Norwich city, our rooms provides an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and your convenient base for any business or leisure activities that you wish to pursue. We offer a venue for business meetings, wedding banquettes and private parties. We serve both bar and restaurant food every lunch and evening, to make your stay more enjoyable and hassle free.
