Newton Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast
Newton Farmhouse is a 16c, Grade II listed building, which was formerly part of the Trafalgar Estate, gifted to Lord Nelson's family following his death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805; it remained in the family until 1947.
Although, the house has been extensively altered over the years, we have endeavoured to retain as many original features, such as flagstone floors, exposed oak beams, an original bread oven in the inglenook fireplace and a well inside the conservatory.
Breakfast is served in the conservatory between 8 and 9am Monday-Saturday and 9-10am on Sundays. We offer a full cooked English breakfast, together with a variety of freshly prepared fruit, yoghurt, cereals and breads.
All our rooms are fully en-suite with bath or shower and are comfortably furnished, with colour TV with integral DVD (in all but one bedroom) and Tea & Coffee making facilities. Each room is equipped with a trouser press and hair dryer. We are happy to recommend local pubs/restaurants all of which we have experienced first hand! If you want to come home and get into bed with a movie, you are very welcome to borrow one of our DVDs.
We are a non-smoking B&B throughout and we do not have a credit/debit card facility, cheque, travellers cheques, or cash are all fine.
Newton Farmhouse is centrally situated for all the wonderful places to visit in both Wiltshire and Hampshire. We are 6 miles from the Cathedral city of Salisbury (which boasts the highest spire in England, an original copy of the Magna Carta and the oldest known working clock).
The historic Cathedral city of Winchester and the maritime city of Portsmouth with Lord Nelson's flagship 'HMS Victory' and HMS Warrior, the first ever iron clad warship. There are also numerous maritime museums including the 'Mary Rose' museum, where Henry VIII's flagship is now housed together with 1,200 artifacts which were found following the recovery of the vessel in 1982 from the sea bed where she lay undisturbed since 1545.
The ancient monument of Stonehenge is close by and we are five minutes drive from the New Forest, where wild ponies and deer can be seen roaming freely.
The area is renowned for the many National Trust properties and gardens which are open to visitors.
Other nearby attractions include Heal and Exbury gardens, Broadlands, Avebury, Longleat, Poultons Park, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Wilton House and many, many more, plus excellent fishing, walking, horse riding and golf.
Wiltshire is noted for its beautiful rolling countryside with Salisbury plain to the North, dotted with picturesque villages and rivers such as the Avon and Test.
The city of Bath is just 50 miles away and the traveller can choose between quiet country roads, or high speed modern motorways. Gatwick airport is approximately 2 hours away and Heathrow 1.5 hours, as is central London, traffic permitting! Southampton airport is 20 minutes away and Bournemouth 35 minutes.
Here at Newton Farmhouse there is plenty of off-road parking in the courtyard and privately owned bicycles may be secured overnight.
We look forward to welcoming you in our home.
