Aux Chants de l'Oiseau
Our home, originally built in 1890, has always been at the hub of Gagnac's community. Having been a hotel, restaurant, cafe and bar, it has enjoyed a long history of visitors, although some not as welcome as others.
During the second world war the French resistance used the bar as their meeting place. Unfortunately they were discovered by the Nazi's who took vengeance and burnt the building nearly to the ground. The property was then rebuilt as an 11 bed roomed hotel - sharing one bathroom! Today, the house is a chambres d'hotes with four bedrooms and they each have their own bathroom.
Ideally situated on the border between the Lot and Correze there are many attractions within half an hour. The beautiful villages of Rocamadour, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, Loubressec, Carennac and Collogne-la-rouge are all close by. There are caves and castles to explore, animal parks with bears, birds and monkeys who will feed from your hands, pools and caves to explore on hot days including the stunning Gouffre de Padirac.
The lush green landscape of undulating hills and water-filled valleys offer superb views for walkers, cyclists and artists, 100 metres from the river Cère and 3km from the Dordorgne the area also enjoys fishing, canoeing and bathing. For the more adventurous there are Quad Bike tours, Hot air ballooning, parascending and Paintball.
In order to make your stay as enjoyable as possible we offer a range of services to save you time. We can wash, dry and iron your laundry for you. We hire out our canoe and bicycles for you. If you have time to spare, why not walk to the end of the road and enjoy a moonlight supper at one of the two wonderful restaurants in the Port de Gagnac.
