Vendôme, 'Art and History'
Built in Gallo-Roman times, upon a hill, crisscrossed by the river Loir, Vendôme became a Duchy in 1515 by the will of Francis I.
Antoine of Bourbon first Duke of Vendome was to be the father of the future king of France: Henry IV, who started the Royal Bourbon dynasty.
The present King of Spain is related to this family.
Nowadays a town of 30 000 inhabitants, Vendôme has done well to maintain its historical gardens and medieval architecture.
Take a Rowboat on the river Loir, or use a horse driven carriage to discover at a quiet pace a most beautiful town.
During the summer season, free enjoyable open air concerts take place in the cloister of the Trinity Abbey.
Do not miss! 'les heures romantiques entre Loir et Loire.' and 'the promenades musicales' summer concerts in the main castles and churches of the area in july and august.
Bedrooms:
1)Twin's bed suite: with lounge.
The lounge of the twin's is convertible into a single room for a third person or a child.
2/Junior suite: additional single bed possible for one child.
Each suite has its own private baths and facilities.
PRICES: between 60 and 80 euros per night depending of the season and the length of stay.
Additional single bed: 18 euros, 24 euros in high season.
All prices are for two persons including continental breakfast, (English breakfast on request).
Breakfast, (home made organic bread, fresh fruits juice, home made jam etc...) is served in the large dining-room overlooking the garden.
Dinner
In the evening, dinner is proposed to the residents on booking only. You may book at breakfast time for the same evening. The gourmet cuisine is made from fresh products, some from the Manor garden, with a menu at 26 euros per person, including a bottle of a Loire valley AOC wine for two and coffee.
13 euros for children under 12 years of age. Weather permitting, delightful dinners may take place on the terrace facing the garden.
The well maintained Oratoire wood, 700 yards away from the house, is an inviting short walk. The Manor is also an ideal starting point for hiking and biking. Reception of our guests is between 4 and 7 o'clock pm. If you are arriving by train, we can arrange transportation.
Beware! The house is 'non smoking!'.
Cosette 'Felix the cat' of the premises, doesn't accept other fellow animals on her hunting ground. The bedroom being upstairs might not be suitable for people having motion difficulties.
