Le Tea Pot
On the edge of the village of Montsoreau set against a backdrop of troglodyte caves and dwellings, Le Tea Pot is probably the only troglodyte tea room in France. There is also, of course, a terrace and garden. The room is a large and comfortable double room with king sized bed. The large window gives a view of the Loire. Attached is an ensuite shower.
A smaller 'put u up' room is available for extra family members who could then use the ensuite shower but no under 18's please.
Breakfast is continental style and full English breakfast is available at an extra charge.
Breakfast can be taken in our dining room, in the tea cave, on the terrace or in the garden.
There is a large parking area and we are just a few minutes walk from the centre of Montsoreau. The area is designated National Park and the new UNESCO Anjou visitor centre is very close by. An ideal base for walkers, cyclists and artists, there are numerous cycle routes with more being added.
We have secure storage for cycles in our garage. For those interested in wines of the area why not start with a Saumur Champigny which can be found at our neighbours' right next door. Or saunter to the village to sample Chinon, Bourgeuil and Anjou wines. Visit the chateau made famous in the book by Alexander Dumas 'La Dame de Montsoreau' now extensively renovated to bring history back to life.
Fontevraud Abbey, a mere 4.5km away, contains the tombs of Henry II of England, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, their daughter Joan, grandson Raymond VII of Toulouse and Isabella of Angouleme wife of their son King John.
A short drive of 10km will take you to Saumur, home of the Cadre Noire (School of Cavalry) with its many spectacles during the season. Call in to the tourist office for details of the local wine and music festivals, a must around the area of Saumur and Fontevraud.
The villages of Cande St. Martin and Turquant, both within easy walking distance of Montsoreau, have artists workshops to visit. Whether your interest is in painting, pottery, woodcraft or stone masonery, artists can be found in these local villages. The mushroom grower Champignonniere du Saut aux Loups is within walking distance. Guided tours in English are a daily event between March and November and a visit to their troglo restaurant after a tour is a must.
A little further afield, about 20km, will take you to Chinon with even more Anglo/French history. Sample the fine wines and picnic by the river.
To the north, just across the river the village of Chouze sur Loire is a charming place just to amble around and walk along the river. Then carry on to Bourgeuil for more wines, large Tuesday market and on selected dates in July and August the 'Marche Gourmand' when the whole town is given over to food for the evening.
There is always a fete somewhere close by and we will ensure that all our visitors will have as much information as possible to help them decide which fete or fetes would interest them.
We love this area and we try to ensure that our visitors leave here with the lasting and pleasant memories which ensure they return.
