Les Girouettes is a delightful former farmhouse named after the typically French weathervanes that ornament the rooftop. The property is located in a sheltered lane in a pretty little hamlet in the heart of the Charente Maritime countryside. It has a secluded walled garden and is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area with its picturesque villages and old fashioned rural charm.

We welcome visitors throughout the year and offer two large comfortable rooms which are tastefully decorated with the emphasis on calm and relaxation. A well appointed shower room separates the two bedrooms which are located on the first floor. The ground floor sitting room is equipped with refrigerator, television and DVD player.

Breakfasts include fruit juice, croissants, yoghurt, fresh fruit and a choice of hot drinks. We will be happy to serve you indoors or in the garden.

The nearest ferry ports are Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo.
We are only 10 minutes from the A10 autoroute.
To find us take Exit 34 marked St Jean d’Angély. Follow signs for Saintes and Cognac. This will take you along the bypass then through the town. After you leave St Jean look for an Esso service station on your right. Take the next right towards Véron. Arrive in Véron and take the first left. Continue along this road until you see the old station for Le Moulin de la Laigne on your left. Go straight on and cross the little bridge in the village. Our road is the next left. Les Girouettes is the second house on the right.
Our nearest airport is at La Rochelle. It provides links to the UK via low cost airlines as well as internal flights to other parts of France. There is a year round service to Stansted and scheduled flights operate to other major UK destinations throughout the summer. Other regional airports are located at Poitiers and Angouleme/Cognac. All provide restaurant, parking and car hire facilities.
France’s high speed TGV rail network operates from local major towns to Paris in under three hours, connecting with services to all other European destinations.

Charente Maritime is a region where the long hot summers arrive early and linger late into the year. In mid-summer wild hollyhocks bloom along the village streets and the fields are aglow with sunflowers. The region has a 470 kilometer coastline and includes the holiday islands of Île de Ré and Île d’Oléron. Its mild climate and breathtaking beaches make it a popular destination for French holidaymakers as well as visitors from all over Europe.
The beautiful Côte Sauvage with its fine sandy beaches, sand dunes and pine forests is only an hour away by car.
Les Girouettes is situated near the historic medieval market town of St Jean d’Angély where you will find shops, numerous cafés and restaurants and bustling twice weekly markets selling a variety of local and regional produce.
Our region is well known for its Romanesque architecture and Roman remains. There are many fine examples of Romanesque architecture to be found in the local churches and the town of Saintes boasts a triumphal Roman arch as well as a Roman amphitheatre.
Le Moulin de la Laigne lies within the world-famous cognac producing area. Its products can be sampled in the vineyards of our local producers. In the nearby town of Cognac you can visit the major cognac producing houses along the banks of the Charente river.

Yoga holidays
The gentle pace of life in the Charente Maritime region provides the perfect backdrop to our yoga breaks. We believe in giving guests our time and attention and therefore restrict numbers to a maximum of four people. Typical days will include yoga and meditation sessions and a country walk or optional visit to a nearby place of interest. Rates include all meals and yoga sessions.

Food is strictly vegetarian. The softer days of spring and autumn are the ideal times to enjoy a period of peace and relaxation but we welcome visitors throughout the year. Our yoga breaks can be tailored to suit your needs. Guests usually stay for between three and seven days. Yoga sessions are conducted by Martin Turner, a qualified British Wheel of Yoga, and Yoga for Health Foundation teacher with over twenty years of teaching experience.

A car is not essential as we are willing to be of assistance where possible. However we are in a rural area and having a car would allow you to explore our wonderful region.
