La Forge d’Hauterives Guest House
Welcome to La Forge d’Hauterives
A comely guest-house
You will be pleased to make acquaintance of a new guest-house which has just opened in La Colle sur Loup, facing the medieval village of Saint Paul de Vence, close by the sea and the mountain, 10 minutes drive from Nice Cote d’Azur International Airport and the French Riviera beaches, halfway between Cannes and Monaco.
Come and discover the precious atmosphere created for you by Anne d’Hauterives, the famed interior decorator, in this venerable mansion. Under the Mediterranean sunlight, you will enjoy the harmony which emanates from a savant mixture of antic and contemporary furniture, of shimmering silk fabric and rough stones.
This ancient village “bastide”, with its metal gate forged in Provencal style, with its paved courtyard and its shadowy vine arbour, was transformed by Anne d’Hauterives into a cosy guest-house. It offers the comfort of five bedrooms, private terraces, living rooms and an adorable closed garden with a swimming pool. In addition, you can share the table of the host for tasty lunches or dinners.
As the guest-house is surrounded by antique dealer shops, each room was appropriately named after one precious exotic wood : “bois d’Amourette”, “bois de Palissandre”, “bois d’Amarante”....
La Forge d’Hauterives offers you the rare opportunity to experience a memorable stay in a real “maison d’artiste”.
Cultural activities
The perfect location
Ideally set in the hinterland of the French Riviera, La Colle sur Loup is a charming village with a warm human atmosphere. Lots of famous designers and artists have settled down here to enjoy its tranquil and high quality of life. In the late 19th century, La Colle sur Loup was called “La Cité des roses”. The wonderful “Centifolia” is still being grown here for the exclusive benefit of the famous perfume “Chanel No 5”.
On the opposite hill, you will find Saint-Paul, with its world famous inn, “La Colombe d’Or”, and its “Fondation Maeght”, the Mecca of 20th century art. Miro, Chagall, Léger, Braque, Picasso, Cocteau, and several other great artists, actors and writers had regularly visited the place.
A few kilometres away is Vence, the “City of Arts”, with its “Chapelle Matisse”, the artist workshop of Dubuffet, the “Fondation Emile Hugues”. The stone walls of the medieval part of the city still echo with old legends of wolves and shepherds.
Closer to the littoral, the hill fort of Cagnes sur Mer dominates the Mediterranean sea. Its Middle Age castle, “Le Château Grimaldi”, and the Auguste Renoir estate, “Les Collettes”, are worth the visit. You will enjoy ambling leisurely along its sloping and flowery alleys.
From there, you have the choice to head either towards Saint-Jeannet, at the foothill of the famous “baou”, the paradise of rock climbers, or Tourettes sur Loup, the city of violets, or Grasse and its exquisite perfumes, or Biot with its glass artist workshops, or Mougins and its “Festival de la gastronomie”, or Antibes with its world famous Jazz Festival, its “Picasso Museum”, its ramparts and pinewood, or Opio with its oil mills, or Pont du Loup with its candy shops.
And of course, at 12 kilometres only, the Mediterranean sea is inviting you.... to swim, sail, or just bask under the sun.
We are located near the river Loup with its natural rock climbing wall. Les “Gorges du Loup” are wonderfully suited for canyoning. One can practice horse riding and pony trek at either La Colle sur Loup or Villeneuve Loubet. Close by there are several golf courses, some of them high ranked. The “Mas d’Artigny” offers spa bath and thalassotherapy.
Your children will never get bored between the “Marineland” at Antibes, the “Buffalo Farm” at Thorenc, the “Wolves Sanctuary” at Saint Martin Vésubie, the “Oceanographic Museum” at Monaco and a wealth of other opportunities for exciting family discoveries.
Anne d’Hauterives has a deep knowledge of the French Riviera hinterland. She knows all its secrets and will be delighted to share them with you
