Maison du Canal faces directly onto the picturesque canal lock at the entrance to Villeneuve les Beziers, offering an ever changing view of canal life on your doorstep. The leisurely pace of the barges and boats on the canal reflects the relaxed lifestyle of this region.

Originally from New Zealand, Chris and Faith travelled extensively before discovering the Languedoc area in 2007. They fell in love with the area and thought what a wonderful place it would be to live. The ambience, the weather, the culture, the people, the region … there is so much on offer. They have spent time lovingly converting their house into a light bright comfortable home and would like to welcome you to visit.

Within the main house is a stylish central staircase leading up to two independent suites on the 1st and 2nd floor each sleeping a maximum of 3 people. The beautiful suites of rooms have been lovingly restored by Faith and Chris and have been furnished in a simple, comfortable style using new and classic French pieces. New modern shower rooms and toilets have been installed. Each suite has views of the canal from the front (south facing) and a cosy bedroom with views over the village rooftops to the rear. Pedestal fans are provided for the warmer summer nights.

Wake up each morning to the wonderful smells wafting into the house from the boulangerie two doors away … breakfast on delicious croissants, pain-aux-raisins or pain-au-chocolate and baguettes fresh from the oven!

Breakfast is served on the large terrace which benefits from all day sunshine. There is also a private courtyard garden with a large fig tree giving shade when needed.

An easy half hour cycle ride along the Canal du Midi will take you to the nearby Mediterranean coastline. Along this coastline is a superb choice of beaches to suit all tastes. These range from quiet beaches in secluded areas to lively family beaches with bars, restaurants and evening entertainment.

The village has a good range of small independent shops with 3 bakeries offering freshly baked bread, local speciality gateaux and cakes, a small supermarket, a post office, a bank with cash machine, tennis courts and a multiplex cinema.

From the village there are several buses each day to Beziers, with its Friday flower market, cathedral, boutiques, historic quarter and museums. In August the Feria takes place in the centre of Beziers. The centre of the town is closed to traffic and it is party time with music, dancing and street entertainment.
