B&B in Lucca historical centre
This B&B is located in the very heart of medieval town of Lucca in Tuscany region, between the roman Amphitheatre Square and the Guinigi Tower, in a quiet and secluded area of the town historical centre - only a few steps from the main shopping street of Via Fillungo.
The B&B can easily be reached by car, motorcycle and bike, and in a few minutes walk from the railway station. A good shuttle bus service right behind the corner is also available.
The city of Lucca is unique for its intact sixteenth century walls surrounding the historical centre and isolating it from the modern suburbs, so that by walking along its narrow streets (now pedestrian precinct) you can forget about time.
Lucca is a small provincial town rich in history, tradition and culture, but also a place of interest for high quality tourism. Tourism in Tuscany means Florence and its beauties, the Chianti area, Siena and Piazza del Campo, Pisa and its 'leaning tower', San Gimignano and, of course, Lucca, which is beautifully located in a very favourable position among hills and country between the sea and the mountains.
The town of Lucca is not far from the sea resort of Viareggio with its bathing establishments, as well as from the exclusive shopping centre and renowned clubs of Forte dei Marmi. In the near Torre del Lago the Puccini Opera Festival takes place every summer. From Lucca you can also visit the Garfagnana area with its high mountains and typical products, or the marble quarries of Michelangelo in the Apuan Alps.
In Lucca many are the monuments, elegant palaces, churches and squares that make this town so beautiful: the Guinigi tower very close to the B&B (with its oak trees on top of it), the Amphitheatre Square of Roman origins with its circular shape, the wooden Holy Cross inside the Cathedral of San Martino, the National Museum of Palazzo Mansi.
In the surrounding hills you can visit old villas with a rich and noble past, and old farmhouses, where very good wine and extra-virgin olive oil are produced.
A place of art and culture, Lucca is the birthplace of great musicians and composers such as Boccherini, Luporini and Catalani, but the most famous of all is undoubtedly Giacomo Puccini, who composed world-famous operas like La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, Turandot. He was born in the very heart of Lucca, in the Corte San Lorenzo, and there it is still possible to visit his home and see his piano.
