Beautiful Riviera

The beautiful town of Sestri Levante has 2 magnificent bays: the terrific Bay of Silence and the Bay Of Fairy Tales, so called after Christian Andersen's words.
Ligurian Riviera is famous for its particularly mild climate, which, together with the charm of its old fishing ports and the beauty of its landscape, has made it a popular destination for travellers and tourists since the time of Byron and Shelley.

The food in Liguria is one of the most refined and tasty of Italy: farinata, focaccia all'olio, focaccia salata, trofie al pesto, cappun magro, verdure ripiene al forno, ravioli di boraggine, torta pasqualina, panissa are just some examples of the typical dishes of this region.

Sestri Levante' sea is just in the middle of the International Ligurian Sea Cetacean Sanctuary, now known as the Pelagos Sanctuary for Mediterranean Marine Mammals. This Marine Protected Area aims at the protection of cetaceans and covers approximately 84,000 km², comprising the waters between Toulon (France), Sardinia and Fosso Chiarone (Tuscany).

The hillside of Liguria is covered with thick woods and gives the less hurried tourist tranquil and fascinating journeys through medieval villages, ancient churches, sanctuaries, villas, palaces, castles, old towers, fortresses and archaeological sites.
The resort is perfect for exploring the Riviera: boat trips are available from Sestri Levante to Cinque Terre, Portofino, Genova.

Moreover the main cities of the north of Italy are not far from Sestri Levante:
Genoa The Superb, so called after the beautiful old mansions, is only 30 minutes drive from Sestri Levante.

You can go to Pisa within 1 hour travel time (car or train) and you can go to Florence, Turin and Milan within 2 hours travel time.

An annual writing contest for children (Premio Hans Christian Andersen ) is held in Sestri levante every year.
