B&B 'Lungo la Via Clodia'
Our guesthouse is located in an ancient medieval milieu right in the valley where the ancient consular road Via Clodia passed through Blera, known during the Middle Ages with the name of Bieda. At the time Blera was an important center of commercial trades but already in ancient times the city was an important Etruscan center with a great necropolis which is nowadays a tangible sign of the Etruscans presence in this area. In the area of San Giovenale in Blera there are relics of one of the most important Etruscan settlements. It was excavated by the Swedish Institute in Rome in the 50s and inaugurated by Gustav VI Adolf, the King of Sweden in 1960. He participated personally in the excavations with other Swedish archaeologists.
All our rooms are spacious and equipped with bathroom, kitchen, TV and air conditioning. Moreover, in collaboration with other local organizations, you will have an opportunity to enjoy traditional foods and participate in guided excursions to the Necropolis, along the Via Clodia, to the Roman bridge “Ponte del Diavolo”, to the excavations of San Giovenale, and to the area called “Valley of the Moon”.
For mountain bike lovers Blera is an optimal point of departure in order to take a bike ride along the railroad tracks of the old line connecting Rome to Orte, which was discharged in the 60s.
We are at:
- 25 km from Tarquinia and its wonderful coast line. In Tarquinia there is also one of the most famous Etruscan museums with an impressive and huge collection of tombs and sarcophaguses.
- 25 km from Viterbo and its breathtaking medieval historic center.
- 25 km from “Terme dei Papi” where you have a unique opportunity to relax in natural thermal waters and saunas.
- 30 km from the lake of Vico
- 30 km from the Cimini Mounts where you can visit matchless small villages like S. Martino al Cimino and Soriano al Cimino.
If you love nature, you have an opportunity to participate actively in helping to pick up olives in October and November and collecting nuts in September, both still done according to traditional methods. Furthermore, you can take a nice walk and see the streams and natural cascades of the “Gola del Blerano”.
