Mille e una notte - rooms is in Gibellina, an en plein air Museum.
The village was destroyed by the earthquake of 1968 and then it was entirely rebuilt shortly distant from the place where it stood. New Gibellina while maintaining tradition, was built with the help of artists at the international level that allowed to draw a cultural journey into the future, projecting men and things in a cosmopolitan dimension.
Gibellina is a great narrator; it is a chest of emotions and memories, which are still buried under Burri's Cretto. It hides and holds the mystery and memory of the earthquake; it is a pot full of wonders of contemporary art with its museums and Mario Schifano's unique masterpieces; it is an always active workshop where Pietro Consagra, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Carla Accardi and a number of famous artists make hear their voices.
Gibellina Nuova, a sort of town-garden, seen from above is reminiscent of a large butterfly lying along the strip of nearby motorway. From the main road which leads to Santa Ninfa, the countryside offers green plains, large valleys and thriving woodlands like that of Mount Finestrelle.
On the side of the mountain on which Gibellina Vecchia rose there is il Cretto by Burri, a work of environmental art which, like a white shroud, covers the ruins.
The natural landscape belongs to terrains of a chalky nature and includes Mount Finestrelle, a high ground that is part of a high plain, covering quite a large area. On the chalky outcrops, strips of Mediterranean scrub survive, and in the valleys there is a thriving riparian vegetation.
The fauna includes the Sicilian shrew, among the birds there is the small kestrel, characteristic for the position a spirito santo - like the holy spirit - that it assumes during hunting.
