Villa Salice
Villa Salice is situated in the heart of the Valle D'Itria which has been a popular holiday destination for Italians for many years. They are drawn here by the beautiful countryside, miles of lovely beaches, the hospitality of the Pugliese and, of course, the renowned local food and wines.
You can sample all of these within a few kilometres of Villa Salice, set in the typical Pugliese landscape of rolling countryside and olive trees. We offer an ideal base for exploring the local attractions including the lovely old town of Martina Franca, only 10 minutes drive away and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Alberobello. This town is the 'trulli capital' where you will be amazed at the sight of hundreds of these tiny stone buildings with their conical roofs and tempted to buy a miniature version to take home with you as a souvenir!
Other attractions close by include the local markets in Ostuni and Ceglie on Saturdays, Cisternino on Mondays and Martina Franca on Wednesdays where you can watch the locals buying their fresh fruit and vegetables, most of which will have been grown within a few kilometres of the town.
Further afield, an hour's drive will find you on one of the many beaches of the Adriatic or Ionian coasts - Puglia being known as the land between 2 seas. Or you can drive south for an hour and a half to discover the delights of Lecce, known as the Florence of the South because of it's beautiful baroque architecture. Heading north for a couple of hours will take you through some beautiful countryside and interesting towns to the fascinating town of Matera with it's cave dwellings known as 'sassi'.
These were home to the local population up until the '50s when the unsanitary and primitive living conditions were brought to the attention of the national government. The resulting outcry meant a move into new housing for the locals but some of the sassi still remain and several have been converted into tourist accommodation - with all modern conveniences, of course!
We are easily reached by low-cost airline flying to either Bari - 1 and a quarter hours travel or Brindisi - 45 minutes away.
We offer a well-appointed guest room with a double bed and ensuite facilities on a bed and continental breakfast basis for either double or single occupation. The room is self-contained with an air-conditioning unit and separate from the main villa so guests can enjoy a degree of privacy, although we are always on hand to offer any help or advice we can. We can't claim to have tried all the restaurants in the local area but, in our 5 years here, we have built up a collection of favourites and guests will be spoiled for choice.
There are also information leaflets provided in the room, together with a small fridge, kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. We also like to offer our guests a welcome drink on arrival and are prepared to provide a light meal for late arrivers.
Our private swimming pool is available for guests to use at appropriate times of the year - usually late April until early October- and towels are also provided for this purpose.
You will probably find that a week's stay is not long enough to do justice to all this region has to offer the visitor and always look forward to return visits from satisfied guests.
In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you on your first visit and can assure you of a warm and friendly welcome.
