Casa da Lenterna B&B is a cosy guesthouse located in the picturesque farm/fishing village of Sao Vicente Ferreira on the island of Sao Miguel, Azores. It features three unique rooms, secure off-street parking, private gardens and is built around a century old volcanic stone house.

It's central location on the island makes it an ideal starting point to seeing the many features of the island. It is minutes away from the ocean on the north side of the island and less than a 10 minute drive to the bustling historic city of Ponta Delgada and the international airport.

Sao Miguel is known for its many natural features: extinct volcanic craters, crater lakes, hot springs, thermal pools, mountain vistas, sheer rock cliffs and abundant tropical vegetation. It is known as the Green Island owing to the abundance of pasture and forest covered peaks. It is the largest and most populated island of the Azores. Its mild temperate climate contributes to growth of hydrangea, azalea and ginger lily as well as pineapples and tea.

Visitors come to take part in the summer ´fiestas´ that happen in all the villages on the island from May to October. Others come for the whale watching, the hiking trails, cycling, swimming with dolphins, the golf courses or to simply soak in the hotsprings heated from deep within the volcanic ground.

Sao Miguel has a rich history dating from the 1400´s and many historic buildings dating from that time can be found in Ponta Delgada and other larger towns around the island.

The island is 65 km long and 12 km wide at its widest point.

There are several tour companies that can arrange day events such as whale watching, hiking expeditions, 4wheel safari adventures through the mountains, fishing excursions, deep sea diving and sightseeing.
