Red River Lodge Bed & Breakfast
Our friendly family run Bed and Breakfast is ideally located on the North County Mayo/West County Sligo border just 5km from Ballina and close to the beautiful seaside resort of Enniscrone. Our guest accommodation is comfortable and modern and all rooms overlook the Moy Estuary. Most bedrooms have a spectacular view over the Estuary.
All our rooms are ensuite with power showers & hairdryers. We deliberately do not have TV in the bedrooms to ensure a quiet, peaceful ambience.
Wake up to the dawn chorus instead of noisy street traffic.
Relax in our comfortable guest lounge after your busy day. Here you can help yourself to tea, herbal tea or coffee at any time. You can browse through our many tour guides, chat to fellow guests, read or simply watch T.V.
Enjoy breakfast in our conservatory with stunning views across the garden to the Moy Estuary. You can help yourself to a buffet of juice, fruit and cereal with lots of freshly percolated coffee and a selection of herbal tea.
Start the day with the full Irish breakfast, eggs cooked to your liking, pancakes with maple syrup, fruit & yogurt. If you wish you can take your coffee outside on the deck, either way, a relaxing start to your day!
Whether it's after a hard day sightseeing, golfing or fishing you can relax down on our patio hidden away in the garden or up on the deck beside the rocky water-feature and watch the sun sink over the Estuary. We want our guests to enjoy our garden with its quiet spots and take time out from the busy stream of city life.
Our bed and breakfast is called Red River Lodge because of the glorious red sunsets we get in summer where the estuary turns blood red as the sun slowly sinks into the west.
We are currently No. 1 recommended B&B for Ballina on Trip Advisor, nominated for Best Welcome with Failte Ireland 2006 & nominated for best home with Family Homes of Ireland along with many letters of commendation from Town & Country Homes Association.

They say Golf's best in the West and from what our guests tell us, it is! Our links are second to none and there are few places in the World where you will find accessible quality courses at budget fees. There is an array of quiet parkland courses throughout the County, including one here in Ballina, where visitors are always welcome.Within a 40-mile radius of Red River Lodge there are 2 Championship Links (one just up the road from Red River Lodge) in Enniscrone, and the 2nd at Rosses Point in Sligo. West of Ballina is the new exciting course at Carne, Belmullet, (approx. 1 hr. drive) designed by Eddie Hackett. Even Hugh Grant couldn't resist the lure of Enniscrone & Carne when he flew in by helicopter for a quiet weekend golfing. Westport & Strandhill are two other popular links all within a 1hr. drive.
As you drive along the banks of the River Moy it is obvious that you are in a major angling centre. The Moy is one of Europe's most important salmon rivers and attracts thousands of fishermen each year.
The Ridgpool, where the salmon jump the weir, is booked up months in advance by anglers from all over the World.
Lough Cullen in Co Mayo are in an unbelievably beautiful location. It is estimated that there are about half a million wild trout in these lakes and about 500 salmon are caught annually.
Lough Conn is a big lough stretching about 14,000 acres (approximately 5.5km long and1.5km wide), it and its immediate neighbour to the south L. Cullin, reached by going under pontoon bridge, are connected to the sea by that great Salmon river the Moy. The lakes provide excellent trout fishing. Salmon also enter Lough Conn and are caught in fair numbers.
The general wet fly fishing is very good. The average size of a Conn trout is about 13ozs and the average bag is over three per rod its smaller neighbour L. Cullin produces fish around 3/4 lb. The seasons run from 1st February to September 30th for salmon and from 15th February to 10th October for trout. About 7 miles from Ballina, Lough Talt provides brown trout catches between February and October. The scenery is unmatched in the county and the tranquility alone is worth the trip.
