The Porridge House

We are a small and friendly Bed & Breakfast in the beautiful village of St.Johns Town of Dalry about 16 miles north of Castle Douglas. Our rates are from £20 p.p.p.n. and we don't charge a single supplement.

We offer two styles of breakfast: a Continental style with porridge, cereal, fresh fruit, home baked bread and yoghurt; and the full cooked breakfast. We are happy to provide Vegetarian options.

We have a twin and a double room, a roaring fire in the winter ( October to May - or so it seems!) and two laid out cats!

Please note that our rooms are not en-suite. The two rooms share a shower room (which has its own toilet) and a separate toilet.

Our garage is available for those who are cycling in the area or using a motorbike as transport.

For walkers we are right on the Southern Upland Way, one of Scotlands toughest long distance paths. We can 'pick up and drop off' at various points on the SUW for a small fee.
For the day tripper there are numerous easier options!

There is also the Red Kite Trail for Bird Watchers.

Loch Ken is nearby offering sailing, water sports and fishing.

Threave Castle, once the stronghold of The Black Douglas' lies just West of Castle Douglas, the Food Town of Dumfries & Galloway. There are also numerous forest walks and cycle paths including the Seven Staines Cycle Route in the Galloway Forest Park nearby.

All in all there is much to do and see based from this quiet and peaceful village.
