Ben Wyvis B&B
The B&B is located in a peaceful area of farmland and woodland. As from anywhere on the north coast of the Black Isle, the views across the Cromarty Firth to the opposite coast and the mountains beyond are spectacular.
The Black Isle is not an island but is, in fact, a peninsula, in the Scottish Highlands.
Situated just to the north of Inverness with Dingwall to the west, it can be reached via the A9 from the south or north, or the A832 from the west.
It is attached to the mainland at the heads of the Cromarty and Beauly Firths, and the description 'Black' is no more correct than 'Isle'. The exact origin of its name is unknown, though there are at least six possible explanations of why it became the 'Black' Isle, ranging from the most intriguing, through its association with witchcraft and the black arts in mediaeval times, to the more prosaic, that the soil here is very black, or that it has so many trees that it looks black when viewed from surrounding areas in Winter.
The character of the Black Isle is distinct from that of the surrounding areas. The inhabitants definitely feel it is a discrete area, and there is a feeling of common background. Due to its relative isolation, events, historically speaking, have progressed at a different rate, and often in a different direction than in other areas. As a consequence, its villages have remained relatively unspoiled, and each has retained its own individual character.
There is a huge variety of things to do on the Black Isle. You could indulge in the gentle pursuit of touring through its many country roads admiring the spectacular scenery or more energetically, perform woodland walks and rambles. Birdwatching and fossil hunting, relaxing on beaches, browsing in gift and craft shops, eating in tea rooms and restaurants, or just generally exploring - the only problem you might have is deciding between them
