Woodland, Vegetarian Guest House

Here at Woodland in the Kyle of Sutherland we have a peaceful environment were you can get away from it all and enjoy all that the Highlands of Scotland has to offer.
You have the Highlands all around you.

Rosehall were we are is a peaceful Hamlet in the North Central Highlands. We have plenty of nice walks, Visit the Rosehall trails - its a great place for the whole family. The Rosehall forest walks and bike trail on our doorstep, various long and short walks. There are walks for all ages and levels of fitness, as well as the 8.5 miles long Sika bike trail. Don’t miss the Cassely falls. Ravens rock gorge a 45-minute stroll through a Jewel of forest scenery. One of the 10 best forest walks in the UK Forestry Commission awards

Wildlife of the North.
With so much wild country, there are many places to see highland wildlife. These include pine marten and golden eagle on Beinn Eighe nature reserve by Loch Maree, spectacular numbers of cliff-nesting seabirds on RSPB reserve on the island of Handa, hen harrier and short-eared owl on the Caithness `flow country` around Forsinard, or the Moray Firth bottlenose dolphins viewed from Chanory point by fortrose.

Highland Clearances.
The empty glens of today’s Highlands in many places once supported surprisingly large populations. The changing economic climate of Scotland from the 18th century onwards resulted in both emigration and eviction - a story told at a number of `clearance villages` for example at Badbea, north of Helmsdale, you can visit this abandoned crofting village, originally settled by Highland folk cleared from the neighbouring glens. Timespan in Helmsdale portrays the impact of the local clearance episodes. Further north, there are clearance sites to view in Strathnaver, while Strathnave museum in Bettyhill gives the full flavour.

The Highland of Scotland is a wonderful place to visit all year round. Visiting the Highlands outside of the peak season offers many advantages, may cost you less and you are likely to have the great outdoors to yourself.

We appreciate that flying is often the quickest way to get here. However if possible consider travelling by train or coach. Not only is this better for the environment but you can enjoy some amazing landscapes along the way.

Once you are here consider exploring one or two places in depth or, if touring why not leave the car behind for one day and walk or cycle instead. Not only will you understand more about the places you visit, you are likely to have a richer experience too.

We have cycles for hire if you would like to cycle the quiet country roads.
Yoga, Reiki, Life coaching is also available.

We are a Vegetarian Guest house organic as much as possible. Evening meals are available by Arrangement.
