The pineapple, the colonial symbol of hospitality, dates back to the days when the sea captains returned from their long voyages. Placing a pineapple outside their door signified that they were welcoming friends and neighbors for a visit and sharing their hospitality.
Guests are invited to stroll the one and one-half acres of manicured grounds, or enjoy the day on Elk Lake (across the road from Cairn House or nearby Torch Lake. We have five bedrooms all with their own bath and offer a full hot breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30.
Cairn House B&B welcomes you to share the warm hospitality and lodging while you explore the endless activities available in and around Elk Rapids and the beautiful waters of the Chain-o-Lakes, One of the favorite attraction are the wineries.
Leelanau Peninsula has 13 separate wineries and Old Mission Peninsula has 5 wineries. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, on the Lake Michigan is a favorite day visit.
Another great day can be spent Mackinaw Island, which is only 90 miles from Cairn House. The National Cherry Festival held the second week of July in Traverse is a great way to start the summer in Northern Michigan.
