Grantham House B&B

Welcome to Grantham House in Barmouth, one of the most picturesque resorts on the Welsh coast. Backed by the Rhinog mountains and surrounded by the splendour of the Snowdonia National Park. The long, sandy, blue flag beach leads round to the harbour where there are magnificent views of the Mawddach Estuary with Cadair Idris serving as a spectacular backdrop.

In the harbour there are plenty of places to eat and drink, marvel at the views and watch the world go by. Whilst there be sure to visit the Ty Gwyn Maritime Museum above Davy Jones Locker - a lovely and atmospheric place to eat. The museum features a prominent local shipwreck, that of the 700 ton Genoese galleon 'The Bronze Bell' which sank in 1709. A two ton block of marble - a part of its cargo was raised and carved into 'The Last Haul' which can be found opposite 'The Last Inn'. Also nearby the harbour is the Ty Crwn Round House, a lockup for 18th Century drunken sailors.

There are of course many opportunities for walking and cycling in the area not least of which is the Mawddach Trail, which goes from Barmouth to Dolgellau. The more adventurous can cycle the trails of the Coed y Brenin at Wales' premier mountain biking destination - miles of dreamy single track! You can stroll across the railway bridge, which features on many a postcard and has even been on TV!

Or you could take the ferry across to Fairbourne and have a ride on the Steam Railway. For the more energetic, climb the cliffs immediately above Barmouth to Dinas Oleu which was the first ever property to be given to the National Trust in 1895. Another well known walk is the Panorama Walk, giving spectacular views of the Mawddach Estuary.

One advantage for the less energetic is that it can be reached within ten minutes of the nearest carpark. Slightly further afield are the attractions of Harlech Castle, The Welsh Highland Railway, Ffestiniog Railway and the unique Italianate village of Portmeirion and famous because of the filming of the cult TV series The Prisoner.

Large double room with Kingsize bed. The room has a fully ensuite bathroom with shower over. Coffee/Tea making facilities, freeview TV with integral DVD player.

We have a few DVD's you may borrow or you are welcome to bring your own.

Please note, that this is a NO SMOKING House.
