Bowes House Bed & Breakfast
Bowes House is our family home set in three quarters of an acre of garden with orchard, fruit bushes, stone barn, flowers, shrubs and vegetables with stunning and far reaching views of the surrounding Dorset and Somerset countryside. There are lovely views from every window in the house of either the garden or valley. We are at the end of a short track which turns into a bridleway. There are many good walks, maps are available to borrow.
There are two bedrooms, one twin with ensuite bath and shower and a 6ft double which can be made into a twin with ensuite shower. Both have views across the valley. The rooms are spacious and quiet. There are feather duvets and pillows and white cotton bedlinen and towels. The water is softened as we are in a very hard water area to make bathing a luxurious experience, it is heated by the sun.
Breakfast is sourced from organic and or local produce or even from the garden. I make my own yoghurt, marmalade and jams. Eggs are from our own hens. We offer cereals, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, bacon, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, toast/bread, tea and coffee. There are always herbal teas including rooibosch and decaffeinated coffee to choose from as an alternative. Special diets can be catered for with advance warning. Our drinking water is filtered.
Mosterton is situated between the thriving market towns of Crewkerne (Somerset) and Beaminster. On Saturday mornings there is a farmers market in Crewkerne and Beaminster has a wealth of good food shops serving local and organic produce. The fabulous Jurassic coastline is 20 minutes away at West Bay which also boasts two excellent fish restaurants, The West Bay and The Riverside restaurant. At Burton Bradstock there is the excellent cafe on the beach at Hive Beach. The new and much reviewes 'Wild Garlic' restaurant (Matt Follas) is 5 minutes away in Beaminster. The beaches are wonderful and there are many smaller ones where you can get away from it all. The coastal walking is spectacular.
Also within half an hours drive is Mapperton Gardens, Lower Severalls Garden and Nursery, the National Trust properties, Tintinhull and Montacute, Cricket St Thomas wildlife park, Haynes Motor museum and Fleet air arm museum. Bath is about one hours drive and Stonehenge about 45 minutes.
