A thoroughly relaxing, award-winning guesthouse in Wheddon Cross village, right in the heart of Exmoor National Park.
Exmoor House has very comfortable ensuite bedrooms, a dining room with a view of Dunkery Beacon and a cosy guest sitting room (with log fires in winter).
We're smoke-free, TV-free and almost mobile-phone-free (most of them don't work up here!). The emphasis here is on excellent food - we've been nominated for the UKTV Food Local Heroes award - and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Breakfasts and dinners are made using quality ingredients, and with local produce wherever possible. Everything's homemade, including our bread, preserves and ice cream. The dinner menu changes daily; we offer two choices at each course and will do our best to cater for particular dietary requirements - just let us know when you make your booking.
Start the day with a delicious breakfast before going out exploring - there are many good walks that start from our door. Relax with an aperitif before a candlelit 3-course dinner in our characterful wood-panelled dining room. Enjoy a great night's sleep in one of our kingsize beds.
You can also book sole use of Exmoor House for a group of up to 12 people: ideal if you're celebrating a special birthday or anniversary, or would simply like to have a get-together with family or friends.
Exmoor House has an interesting history - it was built as a tailor's shop (which is now our dining room) with a reading room for the village (which is now our guest sitting room) - there are still plenty of books to read in there, as well as local maps which you're welcome to borrow during your stay.
We're ideally placed for many local attractions, for example Snowdrop Valley, Dunster and its castle, Porlock, Tarr Steps. The Coleridge Way footpath passes through Wheddon Cross, making Exmoor House an excellent place to stay before tackling the last part of the walk.
Special midweek breaks are available - see our website for full details.
Exmoor House is rated 4* (Silver Award) by VisitEngland and has the Walkers Welcome and Cyclists Welcome awards (which means, as you might expect, that we have very good facilities for walkers and cyclists). We are also committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible. In 2010 we were the first accommodation on Exmoor to achieve a Gold Award from Green Tourism.
