Wispers Lodge Bed & Breakfast

Lesley and Mike would like to welcome you to Wispers Lodge, a small-holding offering comfortable accommodation and home grown or locally sourced produce.

Accommodation

We offer two rooms at Wispers Lodge. Both are clean and spacious with wardrobes, tea making facilities, and comfortable beds. Each room is detailed at the bottom of this page.

Breakfast is served in the dining room whilst guests are also welcome to use the downstairs lounge, with its wood burning stove and views over the fields and Downs. A lawned garden surrounds the property, with seats benefiting from fantastic views across to the South Downs.

If you have any special requirements, do let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs in order to ensure you have an enjoyable and restful stay. We're happy to provide a pick up service from the local train station (Liphook), Midhurst Bus Station or from one of the National Walking Trails that pass close to Wispers Lodge. We can also give you a lift down into Midhurst for your evening meal.

Parking spaces within our drive and secure cycle storage is available.

The Twin Room

This room has stunning views over the Rother Valley, with the South Downs beyond. It benefits from an ensuite shower room.

The Double Room

This bedroom has a comfortable double bed, with a seperate bathroom (bath only) located next door.

Breakfast

We pride ourselves on being able to offer a truly local, and delicious, breakfast. To start, you can have homemade jam and marmalade, or honey from our bees, on bread made by our son (who's an artisan baker).

To follow, we serve 'Midhurst Royal' sausages and butchers bacon, with eggs from our chickens, and when the seasons allow, tomatoes from our greenhouse. Feel free to ask for whatever you wish, and we'll try to sort it for you. We're also more than happy to accommodate any specific dietary requirements.

Breakfast is generally served between 8am - 9am, however we are happy to accommodate your needs for an earlier or later start to the day.

Tariff

The Double £75 per night (for two sharing), single occupancy £45

The Twin £75 per night (for two sharing), single occupancy £45

With both rooms, over the weekend we ask for a minimum stay of 2 nights.

The smallholding

Although not a full sized working farm, we have a good number of livestock in the fields surrounding Wispers Lodge. If you are interested, we are always more than happy to give you a guided tour, show you the beehives or simply let your children collect the eggs for their breakfast.

The Wispers Flock

We have an award winning flock of Jacob sheep. Come March, our flock size doubles with arrival of new lambs.

Chickens

We have a range of traditional breeds of chicken, with chicks hatching out over the summer months.

Pigs

Seasonally, we have a few Oxford and Sandy pigs in the neighbouring field.

Bees

The majority of our hives are kept away from the house, although we do have one hive in a neighbouring field in case anyone is interested in taking a look. Honey is harvested from May through to early September, the main flow being early in July.

Honey and eggs are all available to buy 'over the farm gate'.
Guests are also welcome to observe any of the above 'farm-based' activities.

Directions

From Midhurst take the A272 travelling West towards Petersfield for less than 1 mile turning right 300m after the Half Moon Inn where signposted for Woolbeding. Continue along this winding lane, forking left after 3/4 mile then climbing steadily for about one and a half miles. Near the top of the hill look out for a small, traditional Royal Mail pillar box on a post on the left. The entrance to Wispers Lodge is just before this post box.

If using Sat. Nav. the post code will identify Pound Farm 300m South of our property on Linch Road.

Attractions

Historic, houses and gardens

The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum and West Dean Gardens are located approximately 20 minutes from Wispers Lodge. Slightly further south is Fishbourne Roman Palace and Bignor Roman Villa.

The National Trust properties of Petworth House and Park, and Uppark House and Garden, are both located within 10 miles of Wispers Lodge. Woolbeding Gardens are located within walking distance. The stately home of Parham House and its gardens, are located a short drive away, too.

Outdoors and Leisure Activities

The South Downs Way National Trail, the Serpent Trail long distance path, and the New Lipchis Way all pass within close proximity of Wispers Lodge. We are happy to provide a pick up service from either.

Wispers Lodge is located next to Woolbeding Common SSSI, close to Iping Common and has a huge network of footpaths within close proximity. We can provide you with maps for the local area together with ideas for walks taking in local villages, country pubs and other attractions

Events

Wispers Lodge is located close to Goodwood, the location for the Festival of Speed, the Rivival, and horse racing. The latter is also held at Fontwell, close to the historic town of Arundel.
