The River House

Nestled on the banks of the Tamar River, 12 minutes from Launceston's CBD, The River House is where the country meets the city. We offer you various accommodation options, delicious breakfasts, delightful bedrooms and gorgeous bathrooms.

Enjoy a restful stay in our inviting surroundings, with a tranquil guest lounge tempting you inside, while the choices, views and sounds beckon you into the gardens.

Venture out to explore the many and varied attractions of Launceston and the North, returning to your conveniently located and relaxing accommodation to refresh for yet another day. Your hosts, Helen and Carl, will ensure your stay will be enjoyable, relaxing and memorable.

The River House, set in two hectares of garden and bush, was built in 1955 as a family residence with substantial additions made in 1986. Major interior renovations and refurbishment have been undertaken over the last twelve months, very visible with the new bathrooms, polished floor boards and new window dressings all round.

This lovely family home was situated to take advantage of full river views in a very peaceful, quiet and tranquil location. In the evening, the lights on the fast developing western shore provide a twinkling carpet reflected in the Tamar River. We believe it is a wonderful spot, not quite in the city, not quite in the county, but rather where they both meet.

The interior is spacious, contemporary and elegant and is able to offer a range of accommodation styles, all in-house. There is one 'traditional' deluxe Bed and Breakfasts room with spa-bath ensuite and separate shower, one chic self-catering studio room with double shower ensuite, heat pump and more, and one stunning, one bedroom fully equipped apartment with spa-bath ensuite with double shower, heat pump and more; we have just added a fourth room, a King Suite allowing two single bed occupancy, and of course another beautiful ensuite. All with queen size beds and very spacious, freshly renovated ensuites, which include double showers and/or spa baths.

All rooms have ensuite under floor heating and heated towel rail, broadband connection, LCD TVs and DVDs, luxury linen, towels and bathrobes, fly-screens, private entry, river views and/or garden views, fridge, tea and coffee facilities.

There is a tranquil guest lounge with an open wood fire for cooler seasons, guest broadband computer, separate guest entry, solar heated pool and tennis court. A river-view deck and numerous covered verandas together with the large rambling gardens provide a perfect place for shared or solitary moments.

A sumptuous continental and cooked breakfast is included in the room tariff for the Bed and Breakfast rooms and the King Suite; this is also available for Apartment and Studio guests for an additional charge of $10 per person by prior arrangement. Otherwise for keen breakfast chefs the Apartment and Studio tariffs include gourmet provisions to create your own wonderful meal.

Delicious complimentary afternoon tea is served on arrival; chocolate truffles and port are also provided for your enjoyment.

We look forward to welcoming you and ensuring your stay is a memorable and enjoyable one.
