Chestnut Ridge Farmstay B&B

Chestnut Ridge Farmstay has large gardens and, being on a ridge, has extensive views over the gardens, orchard, farmland, Whangamarino Wetlands, Lake Waikare, surrounding hills and Te Kauwhata township.

Our small 6 ha farm/orchard has around 400 mature chestnut trees and we run about 60 ewes and lambs and a few heifers and chickens. Guests are welcome to look around as long as they leave things as they find them.

The accommodation is flexible:

The Super-King room can either have a massive super-king bed or two king-single beds. A comfortable single trundler bed is available too. This room has an en suite including a spa bath with shower over. TV, radio and tea/coffee making facilities are also included.

The Queen room, as well as a queen bed, has a comfortable single trundle bed. It is next to the bathroom/toilet, which is shared with the hosts at present (guests take priority). The room has TV, radio and a small desk and library of interesting books. Tea and coffee making facilities are always available in the kitchen across the hallway.

Both rooms have exterior doors so that you can come and go as you please. Garage parking is available.

Continental breakfast is included in the tariff and can be upgraded to a full cooked breakfast for a small extra cost.

A three course dinner (nibbles and a drink before, main course with a glass of wine, dessert and tea/coffee) is available for an extra charge of $40 per head if notified in advance.

Dinners are also available nearby at Rangiriri Tavern (every night), Te Kauwhata Tavern (Fri & Sat night) and City Deli Café (Fri night).

Close by are Te Kauwhata township, Rangiriri historic site, Whangamarino Wetlands, Lake Waikare, Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, Showfeilds Equestrian Arena, and the beautiful Waikare golf course. Less than an hour to Nikau Caves, Sea Bird Coast Bird Sanctuary & Miranda Hot Pools. Great central venue for Eden Park, Waikato Stadium (less than 1 hr), North Harbour Stadium ( 1 1/4 hr) & Rotorua Stadium (2hrs) for Rugby World Cup

Your hosts, Janet & John Free have lived in the district for more than 25 years (John being originally from England and Janet from The States) and have a wealth of knowledge of the area (and New Zealand in general) which we are happy to share with you, if you are interested. You are welcome to join us at our table for meals (we hope you will) but we also will respect your privacy if you wish to keep to yourselves and eat in your room. The decision is yours.

Our home is a smoke-free environment but there are covered, sheltered outdoor areas for those who wish to smoke.

Being only 45 min easy drive south of Auckland International Airport, we are an ideal first or last stop for international travellers. A quiet piece of rural New Zealand to get over your flight here or to relax before the flight home.

We look forward to hearing from you.
