Muirfield Green Bed & Breakfast
We are John & Gilly Hendry and we warmly welcome you to Muirfield Green which has 2 twin bedrooms ensuite, sitting room which sits four comfortably and a 'mini-kitchen' for your convenience. Keen golfers will be delighted to know that we are situated right beside the world-famous Muirfield Golf Course, home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Quietly located within just a few feet of its famous wrought iron gates, you will not have far to go to enjoy a round or two on this world famous course. Nor others: Gullane, Archerfield, The Renaissance, Dunbar, North Berwick and Craigielaw courses are all within an easy 25 minute's drive. Little wonder this part of the world is known as Scotland's 'Golf Coast'!
Built in 1890 in the historically and architecturally renowned 'Arts and Crafts' style, Muirfield Green is our family home in the pretty village of Gullane.
Arguably, there is more to East Lothian than just golf! We have lived in this area for nearly twenty years and will be able to guide you to the best attractions - ruined castles, shops, art galleries, beaches, walks, whisky distilleries, birdwatching etc. With views over to Fife, Gullane enjoys a beautiful coastline with clean and sheltered sandy bays, perfect for family days and picnics.
Gullane Bents was awarded a Blue Flag in 2008, meaning good water quality and beach management. Other activities include a trip out to the Bass Rock on the renowned boat, 'Sula', to see its important nesting site for seabirds. Enjoy walking the coastal trails - the well-signposted John Muir Way takes in the varied coastal paths, heritage sites including the ruins of Dunbar and Dirleton castles, old churches in old villages and a number of harbours and fishing ports.
With an abundance of wildlife, sightings of deer, hare and seabirds are likely along the way. Race meetings take place at Musselburgh Race Course, some fifteen minutes' drive away. There are a number of excellent restaurants and tea shops within walking distance and further afield. We are happy to help with reservations or arrange a taxi service.
For a change of scene, why not head for the cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Edinburgh, renowned for its unrivalled history and unique architectural charm? An easy 20 minutes by train, you are taken straight into the centre amid the summer sound of bagpipes.
Discover Edinburgh's excellent restaurants, cashmere and plaid shops, parks, gardens, cobbled streets, nooks and crannies, museums, ghost and whisky trails, and superb art galleries. And not forgetting the Royal Palace of Holyrood House, official residence of Queen Elizabeth II (visit the art gallery there) and of course, Edinburgh Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to James VI. while imprisoned.
And 2009 is an exciting time to visit Scotland with so much happening and something to offer everyone: - The Open Championship at Turnberry , The Gathering Coming Home Scotland Clan Gathering and the Edinburgh International Festival are just three of the numerous must-do events accessible from here. To download the full programme of events, please visit Homecoming Scotland.
We are within 20 minutes of Edinburgh by train and 40 minutes of Edinburgh by car.
