Ceol na Mara

You will be sure of a warm welcome to our lovingly restored period property overlooking the shores of Loch Alsh and within sight of the famous Skye bridge.

Make this your base as you explore the beautiful countryside. The area is renowned for great hill walking and we can advise on walks in the area from short strolls to more energetic endeavours. Nearby Kintail is a perfect place for the more energetic walker and has many famous hills and ridges including 'the five sisters'. For a less energetic walk the Lochalsh woodland garden, (only twenty minutes walk from Ceol na mara) is delightful, set along the rugged coastline of Loch Alsh it has mature woodland with sheltered walks. A beautiful place to visit at any time of year.

The famous Eilean Donan castle is a short drive away and is probably one of the most photographed castles in the world.

If you have a love of history then a trip over to Glenelg is a must, you will find the iron age Brochs, these are large stone structures that historians believe were used as fortified dwellings, built around two and a half thousand years ago, they are well worth a visit as is the wonderful hidden gem of an area that is Glenelg.

Many people come to Glenelg to visit Sandaig where the Writer Gavin Maxwell set his novel, 'Ring of bright water'. Once you have seen the Brochs and walked on the lovely beaches you could get the small ferry over to Skye.

The lovely village of Plockton is a short drive from ceol na mara and is a great place to explore and don't miss out on Calums' seal trip which has two or three sailings most days.

Further out is the dramatic road over to Applecross, the' Bealach na ba 'road or pass of the cattle, which is the highest road in Great Britain and offers the most spectacular views.

When you have seen the sights and need a good meal after your walk, you will have a wealth of choice.

There are plenty of top class places to eat in the surrounding area, many restaurants specialize in locally caught seafood, and offer locally sourced ingredients.

After a days sight seeing, walking and eating you can come back to relax in either our King size room with luxury five piece bathroom or our stylish double room with en-suite shower. Both rooms offer sky TV but the stunning views from the windows would be enough to hold the attention as otters, seals and porpoises are regularly spotted.

Apart from the scenery and wildlife we can also offer a taste of Scottish culture, if you enjoy traditional Scottish music or want to know more, your host, Ross, (a highland piper) can advise on where to go to hear and experience the best.
